President Truman did what he thought was best for our country, he wanted to end the war and after several attempts in trying to get the Japanese to surrender they still refused. Therefore, we had to stop them before things got out of hand. Why would we risk hundreds of innocent lives when it’s unnecessary, yes the enemy would suffer casualties, but in the long haul members of our nation would be safe. However I would say that under the circumstance many believed Japan was clearly beaten, as was likely to surrender in a matter of months. Americans were tired of being in a war, but lasting this long and being successful this far we could of last a little longer without causing so many casualties. Personally, I would of tried to prevent as little casualties by dragging it out a little longer since they would eventually run out of materials.
