President Obama's Protests Against Barack Obama

The 2008 presidential election was the 56th presidential election and was held on November 4, 2008. Democrat Barak Obama was against Republican John McCain. The parties’ candidates focused mostly on change and reform in Washington, but in the last few months of the election campaign domestic policy and the economy surfaced as the main issues after the 2008 economic crisis. Obama’s ability to ensure voters that he could handle the economic crisis at the time and voters disapproval of the outgoing president George Bush and his policies, led him to his victory against McCain. This was an election of firsts; it was the first election in which two sitting senators ran against each other, both the current president and vice president did not run, …show more content…
He was born at Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone. McCain graduated from the Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1958 and flight school in 1960. He volunteered as a naval aviator in the Vietnam War, flying carrier-based attack planes on bombing runs against the North Vietnamese. While on a bombing mission over Hanoi, the capital of North Vietnamese, McCain’s aircraft was shot down. He was seriously injured and placed in Hoa Loa prison. McCain spent 5 years in numerous prison camps, three of which were spent in solitary confinement being tortured before he was released in 1973. Due to his injuries preventing him from being able to advance any further in the Navy, McCain retired in 1981. He was first elected to political office on November 2, 1982, when he won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives by using his greatly known war record. After serving two terms, McCain won the election of the U.S. Senate and became the Senator of Arizona. He has a reputation as a “maverick” meaning he is loyal to conservative principles but has the willingness to disagree with their party on individual issues. From 1987 to 1989, McCain was amongst a group of senators known as the “Keating Five,” that were accused of inappropriately intervening with federal regulators on the issues of Charles H. Keating Jr. McCain entered the 2008 presidential race on April 25, 2007 with his …show more content…
Throughout the speech announcing his candidacy for president, after every issue McCain proclaimed, “That is not good enough for America. And when I’m President, it won’t be good for me” (McCain), trying to imprint the fact that he knows what is wrong and will do everything in his power to fix it into the voters. At the end of his speech, McCain expressed: “I'm running for President to protect our country from harm and defeat its enemies. I'm running for President to make the government does its job, not your job, to do it with less and to do it better. I'm not running to leave our biggest problems to an unluckier generation of leaders, but to fix them now, and fix them well ” (McCain). If McCain had won he planned to strengthen the military and law enforcement to win the war against terrorists. He wanted to permanently balance the federal budget by stopping the government from spending money on things it shouldn’t and stabilize and grow the economy. He also wanted to save Medicare and social security, make tax code fairer and more “pro-growth” and cut down on our nations dependence on foreign

Political Friendly Fire: Trump v. McCain Political friendly fire is when someone in a political party verbally attacks someone in their own party. In the past years it has become fairly common for politicians to attack people in their own party. A great example is when Hillary Clinton went out and attacked Bernie Sanders for not being a democrat but running in the democratic party. Another good example is when Donald Trump questioned Ted Cruz’s qualification for running for president because he was born in Canada.…

John McCain the senior senator from Arizona was one of the leading proponents supporting campaign finance reform. However, not everyone else in Washington agreed with him. He began to see how murky the waters of politics were becoming with the influence of money in the process of elections. McCain got together with Ross Feingold and drafted the McCain-Feingold Act to try to curb the corruption that was beginning to turn Washington into a free for all. Prior to this act politics and the influx of mass amounts of money supporting candidates for office had become widespread, and yet nobody wanted to tackle this gross issue.…

Fixing society, it’s a commonly discussed topic with many many different opinions, but who really holds the key to unlock our full potential. In Beyond Civilization: Humanity’s Next Great Adventure by Daniel Quinn, he claims to know the answer. He claims that our society is doomed unless we make drastic changes, and flip what we know upside down. Daniel Quinn goes on to say how we need new minds to come up with a solution, rather than old minds coming up with programs and how we need to orient our movement toward how tribes used to be, a simpler, more efficient time. This week’s current events discussion is about Anti-Trump protests that have spread throughout the country. The main point of all four articles is that Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election has spread protests across the nation starting on wednesday. On one hand I think they should be able to do whatever they think will help make a change. On the other hand I don’t agree on how far vandalizing and violence has gone. People should fight for what they believe in, personally I am anti-Trump, but I wouldn’t vandalize other people’s property or hurt anyone who supports him.…

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has a unique campaign that focuses on bettering the life of the average American. As his slogan suggests, Sanders is interested in leading a movement that will positively mold the future of the country. With over thirty years of experience in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, he is extremely qualified to hold such an important office. Trump wants to see this country go back to the prosperous country it once was, but he does not know how to filter his words according to most, which makes him seem frightening. Despite Clinton’s accusation about the risk of Donald Trump, his clever use of scare tactics gives voters a sense of security because of his ideas concerning immigration and terrorism.
