The author's use various examples claiming the shift began at the beginning of 1900 and by 1913 there was a new rhetoric employed by the presidents to come. Forty Three men have served as the President of the United States. Each man brought his own ideas, philosophies and ambition to the office. Some of the these gentlemen have been credited with changing the presidency and defining the age, while others have been credited with being helplessly defined by the events of the era in which they held the office. History gives reverence to all of the men who served in what is considered the most powerful position not only in the United States, but also in the world. Perhaps history shows us, that it is not about getting elected to the Presidency that should be applauded, but how one handles the social, political, and economic climate, which he inherits.…

According to Steinem, Clinton and other qualified female candidates could not use the same style as Obama or Bill Clinton. If they did, they would be considered too emotional. There is no ”right way” for a woman to be in a powerful public role without being considered a “bitch.” Steinem declares her support for Clinton over Obama because Clinton has “no masculinity to prove.” She writes about her concern that Obama was seen as unifying due to race while Clinton was seen as divisive about gender.…

There are citizens all around the country who have no idea about what the President actually does or what they stand for. They just view him as ‘the one in charge.’ But the president is much more than that. He is a symbol of unity for our nation. First Lady of the United States, United States Senator, and Secretary of State are some of the titles that have been attached to Mrs. Clinton over the years. However, after her defeat in the 2008 Democratic Party primary to political neophyte and eventual President, Barack Obama many believed that the curtain had come down on her political career. Nevertheless, Hillary Clinton with such tenacity told us to never count her out. Before the election had started, there were calls from all around the Democratic Party’s establishment for her to run, which was tantamount to an anointment as the true successor of President Barack Obama. However, there were those of us who felt that Clinton represented the past, the politics of triangulation, and the character of a chameleon -- someone who would say whatever to achieve her poorly masked goal of sitting in the Oval Office as President of the United States.…

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

“The modern presidency is something of a media invention, partly out of convenience – we need a protagonist, a character through which to tell the story of American politics” (Achenbach). There is no argument that the President hold enormous influence on the nation and the world. By going public the President can gather support directly from citizens for a certain law, bill, treaty, war, etc., and while he or she might not be able to rally the entire nation in his or her favor, an address from the President has a tremendous pull on the nation or will at least get the world talking. But when it comes to policy making, the President influence is much more limited. For example, although the President can institute executive orders, these orders can be overturned by congressional hearing, judicial review, or the next president in office.…

Hillary Rodham Clinton is one of America’s most notorious and profound lawbreakers. The Clinton family has been monopolizing the ideology of, the already distrusted, political system. In light of her recent run for the presidency, I decided it would be best to shed some much needed light onto the subject of her past scandals, present, and inevitable future. As Louis Brandeis once said, “sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants.” Bill Clinton decided that it would be best to fire everyone in the White House’s Travel Office and replace them with his elite Hollywood friends.…

Presidential Power Studies over the years have shown that presidential power has been on the rise. This happened despite the fact that the last eight presidents have left the office under a cloud. Almost every president’s approval ratings dropped by the end of their terms. This may be happening because the citizens of the United States don’t like the idea of a very powerful president. Yet many aspire to be the president because of the power they receive, since presidency is a unitary institution in the federal government and there is no collective action problem.…

Although Hillary Clinton took a loss against Donald Trump, she still remains the face of breaking the glass ceiling. Hillary Clinton believes that she, along with America,“[has] work to do”(Merica). Clinton may have had difficulty dealing with her loss, but she continues to move on. By Hillary Clinton not wanting to give up, it shows a more masculine side because many other women would have given up. Similar to Lady Macbeth, Hillary Clinton ignores her feminine side in her style of running for president of the United States.…

“Political time” has been a concept used to understand and think about the presidency in a new way. The essay focuses on political time and how it allows us to think of presidential history and presidential politics. There were many ways to look at the presidency in American Political Development.
