The amount of ice that covers the arctic declines “1.5% per decade.”(The National Snow and Ice Data Center 2). The polar bears losing ice to live on is the equivalent of us losing our land to live on. We need it in order to survive. Once all of the ice caps are melted, the entire polar bear species will fall from the face of the earth. It is vital that extinction of these creatures never happens because it will cause a butterfly effect throwing off our whole food chain. Once one thing in a cycle changes, everything else will feel the changes. Climate change is not a problem we can sweep under the rug if we do not take action now every living organism will cease to exist. Climate change is bad for the earth because of excess amounts of greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere. Earth 's” temperature can only continue to increase..” by continuing to contribute to excess greenhouse gas emission” (Polar Bear and Climate Change 2). While some greenhouse emissions are necessary in order to maintain life here on earth, too much carbon in the air will cause living things to slowly die off.

First off, greenhouse gasses are like a “blanket” that “traps energy” making the overall climate of the world warm(Climate Change: Basic Information 1).When we have a blanket on and we get too hot we just take off the blanket to cool down. When the earth starts to get too hot it can not just take off its covers to cool down the temperatures will just continue to increase. The earth can only get so hot before life altering changes begin to happen to our home. Increasing temperatures will make it harder to maintain things that are vital to our survival such as “our water supplies, agriculture, power and transportation systems,”(Climate Change: Basic Information 1). Climate change is not only killing the species in the arctic, it’s killing us too. If the heat continues to rise our crops will start to decline causing a shortage of food. The good news is that we can prevent this from happening by making a few small changes to our daily routine. By changing simple things in our daily lives, we can cut greenhouse emissions to prevent future disaster. According to the “National Park Service”, there are many small things that can have a huge impact on how much greenhouse gasses are emitted. Firstly, by” turning your thermostat down 3 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and up 3 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 1,050 pounds per year”("
