A single year may not seem like a long time, or that much can change in that short amount of time, but students can change drastically in just a year. I have seen a lot of growth in myself throughout the year, and am pleased with how I have grown. At the beginning of the year, I was quite shy and did not like speaking in front of groups. This impacted my presentation skills as I was unable to speak clearly and with good emotion. Additionally, I have seen myself become better at working with groups for projects. On top of this, I have worked hard to achieve academic goals I have set for myself throughout the year. Being a good collaborator is important to me as it is a critical skill to have in the workplace. I have grown as a collaborator through the many change challenges in chemistry. These challenges helped me with collaboration by having me work in groups, and by working with people I don’t normally work with. The first challenge that helped me was working in study groups, and I chose to make my group with people who I was not very close to. This group helped me collaborate with peers in a helpful way, that being studying information for the class, and helping other students who didn’t understand it as well. The study groups were a fun way to work with others, and also very helpful for getting used to working with others. The second change challenge that helped my growth as a collaborator was working with a peer who is not already my friend. For this challenge we were assigned partners for a lab in chemistry, and I was assigned someone who I had never talked to before. We were able to work together, and finish the lab with no hindrances. From this challenge I learned how I am able to work with people who I am not close to, and that is also very important in the workplace.
