By taking this course I am hoping that I’ll be able to boost my confidence when it comes to public speaking. I have had to complete many presentation in the past but I have yet to master the ability to present well in front of large groups. Our discussions in our communication course also outlined what the expectations are for being a good leader which guided my partner and I through my first presentation. I’ve noticed that I don’t have trouble organizing my presentation and that I can memorize information fairly easily but I have also recognized my weaknesses when it comes to presenting. Some of my weaknesses are is projecting my voice as well as stuttering. I have most of the information that I’m presenting memorized, but I just have trouble when it comes to standing up in front of my peers and explain it to them. I believe that I could improve on my weaknesses just by presenting a lot more and practicing what I am going to say the night before so I don’t stutter as much. This present did not only reveal my weaknesses but it also taught me about what it’s like to be a part of a dyad and what it takes to be successful as a

I clearly passed messages on what I am going to inform audiences i.e. set speech purpose, and separated speech major parts developing main points. I also attempted engagement with audiences by asking questions to make them feel they are articulated in the conversation/discussion as the vital component. All of these things are my strengths. Certainly, these aren’t enough strengths to make a speech the best. Reviewing self-presented video going through it a few times, I found out supporting materials were missing, sub-points were not clearly mentioned, and proper transitions were not made to maintain the chronological flow of information.…

The art of persuading an audience to think a certain way about a specific topic is not as simplistic as many believe. Therefore, the persuaders often have to utilize certain strategies in order to strengthen their views, which in the end gives them the upper hand. Throughout this essay, I will be discussing how my previous essays directly correlate to one other in many different ways including the utilization of multiple articles, rhetorical strategies, and the use of ATCC (Author, Title, Credibility, Claim) and analysis as to why the essays contains these writing strategies. First off, in my essays one and three they both posses rhetorical strategies that are used to strengthen the authors objective and make their points more credible to the reader. These essays are specifically focused around modern day technology and how people function in today’s society.…

Expertise, or simply a hobby, what matters, in this case, is the passion we have for a specific interest. I decided to share with the class a recent interest I have for Salsa dancing. I enjoy the rhythm that allows me to embrace both upper and lower body movement, with that Latin flare. For that reason, the purpose for the assignment was to incorporate a how to basic dance step routine that could roughly define Salsa dancing. I am quite content that I communicated primarily through my hand gestures.…

I demonstrated leadership at the waterfront festival by presenting the importance and safety of keeping water clean. I expressed this by keeping the students focused, letting them engage in hands on experiments, and answering all their questions to help them get a better understanding of what was happening. These leadership skills helped me earn respect from each student. One of the ways I demonstrated leadership while presenting to the students was making sure they were focused on my presentation.…

According to Boyles (2004), “teachers talk with students to monitor their progress as well as to set goals and help them solve problems” (p.75). Teachers should conduct writing conferences in order to assess and evaluate the writing progress of their students. The purpose of writing conferences is finding the strengths and weaknesses of their writing to improve and develop the skills the student already has. Depending on the students writing the teacher facilitates interventions to improve the students writing skills. Teachers should frequently plan writing conferences to check-in on their students and the progress they have made.…

Like with anything, it's important to look at the negatives and figure out how to fix them, it's also important to look at the positives and figure out how to retain them. I have three goals for my next presentation and I have figured out how to achieve those goals. My first goal is to maintain good eye contact with my audience and I can do this by being more comfortable with what I need to say. In order to be more comfortable I will need to review and practice what I want to say more often. Another goal is to continue my strength of good organization.…

Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

Although I feel that I did an adequate job on the group project one of the most important skills that I desperately need to improve on is learning to present in front of an audience. We had two assignments this semester that revolved around speaking in front of our class, the first being a speech by ourselves and the second being the group presentation. I am a cheerleader, so being in front of crowds does not bother me but what makes me the most nervous is when I have to speak in front of others by reading something I have written or completed. In the group presentation I was not as nervous since I was not alone in speaking to the class, but on the speech I did I was overcome with anxiety. Being able to talk in front of others is my biggest setback, but I am certain that with enough practice, patience, and preparation I will be able to calmly give a speech over any subject that I am required to do.…

I strongly dislike public speaking, but I am working to improve my skills in that area because I know how much it’s needed in the workplace. There were many of my classmates who are graduating at the same time as me and it seems like we all have a lot to improve. We need more practice and more willing to put what we have learned in the past into practice. I know that during our college careers, we have heard from different people about what we should do when we are giving a presentation, but it looks like we did not take it seriously and now we are facing the consequences of giving a presentation like a high school student and not as an almost professional…

I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 H. W. Sumners Leadership Conference where I would have the opportunity to meet a unique pool of influential individuals. Most of my leadership experiences had come from group projects with students who I were familiar with, and the conference gave me the chance to become a team with strangers from across the United States and Mexico. I was not aware of how much I was actually going to get out of the conference. Through the elective workshops, I learned much more about my leadership style and who I could become as a leader. Through the speakers, I learned about the power of creating a vision and pursuing with unyielding faith.…

I remember being terrified to go up because I knew that they were going to ask me questions at the end of my presentation. Luckily, I was able to pull through and answer the questions. My presentation was probably like ten minutes and that definitely helped me grow as a speaker because I am not scared to put my opinion out anymore, I also feel that I will not get as nervous if I ever present again. But I am proud of myself because last year I never really participate and I feel that this year I participated more than last year, since I was not as shy. Also I know many students did not enjoy them…
