Marilyn Monroe’s career as an actress spanned 16 years. She made 29 films, 24 in the first 8 years of her career.

She was born on June 1 in 1926 in Los Angeles as Norma Jeane Mortenson. Right after that she was put in a foster home because her mother was unmarried and had mental instability’s, she was a drug addict. She lived in that foster home for 7 years.

In 1942 she got married at the age of 16 with a man named Dougherty (who was 5 years older than her), she didn’t have a choice; it was either marry him or return to the foster home.

Norma Jeane worked in a factory inspecting parachutes while Dougherty joined the Marines. She got photographed at work as a promotion to show women her contribution to the war

She signed a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox Studios later that year. From this point on she would be known as Marilyn Monroe. At that time, a contract with a film studio, meant the actresses got to go to dinner with the film executives and have relationships with them: a mild way of prostitution.

She took act- and singing lessons and bleached her hair. She took the image of a dumb blonde.

Her first serious acting job came in 1950 when she had a small role in ‘The Asphalt Jungle’. Her first leading part was to be in ‘Don’t Bother to Knock’, filmed in 1952. She also met Joe DiMaggio that year and got married two years later. Their marriage was in trouble from the beginning. In 1954 she got divorced.

After a few big films she signed her name and placed her hands and feet in wet cement.

She was taking a lot of sleeping pills and serious side-effects began to show up. She got ill with bronchitis and anemia while filming a movie. She was often groggy, lethargic and crying on set.

Her last movie was ‘Something’s Got to Give’ which was never finished. If the film was finished Marilyn would have been the first actress who did a nude scene in a movie. Because of her mental problems and drug addiction she never showed up on set and that’s why they couldn’t finish the
