From 1992 to 2003 prescription drug abuse by adolescents under the age of 18 has increased an extreme amount of 212%. Comparatively adolescents under 18s rate is a shocking 2.6 times higher than the population of over 18(Havens,2011). In 2010 NVSS published data revealing the occurrence of 40,393 deaths due to drug related overdoses in the United States in that year alone(Karin,2013). Between 2011 and 2012 it is estimated that over 1.3 Million adolescents abused prescription drugs in that time frame. This amount of abuse poses a major hazard in rates of adolescent overdosing, and possible death. Treatment for the estimated 1.3 million adolescent abusers would be a huge demand in the workforce.
