On Tuesday, we discussed authentic assessment together. I was able to receive beneficial information from her own experiences and personal opinions. We exchanged different materials as well that she will implement with both her high school and preschool classes. She also stated that it was wonderful to see educators in training such as myself being taught such effective teaching methods.

Amy used the example of creating child portfolios as her choice of assessment. She stated that showing pictures with captions and placing these in the preschool environment is a method she uses. She has them in noticeable areas that are used for

They allow the child to perform a goal and reach a certain standard in the best way that matches their interests and skills. These goals and standards are met by using materials in their natural environment, are self initiated, and may have some influence from an educator or adult figure. The children are completing different benchmarks out of their own choice and not simply because they’re instructed to. It shows what different skills a child has and how they can demonstrate them. She also added that not all children are the same. When you look at a child, you’re not looking off a worksheet that you asked them to complete… you’re looking at the whole child. I also agree with Amy’s perspective on the strengths authentic assessment has to offer. Whenever I have worked with children in the past, I’ve tried to allow them to lead themselves to what they would prefer working on. It allows them to engage in activities and play that they enjoy which will also enhance the skills they already have and hopefully improve ones that need more

I teach a range of undergraduate education and developmental psychology courses to practicing and pre-practicing early childhood educators, matriculated into various degree and certificate programs. By providing these educators a model of mentorship with strong philosophical and pedagogical foundations, I have been able to witness once again the power and promise that quality early childhood educational experiences hold. Unfortunately, our current teacher credentialing system falls far short of this model. As I look forward to the next phase in my career, I am eager to delve into exploring bringing such a model to scale, and I believe that a degree in higher education administration will leave me best positioned to do…

Childcare Director Interview (My answers for these were taken from both past conversations I have had with the director as well as my cooperating teacher since the director was gone recently due to a family issue out of state. I saw here very briefly on my last day for the first time in a while and because she was in the middle of something I only got to thank her for letting me be there this semester before I left. So, I am focusing mostly on the program’s newly expanding private school named Legacy Christian Academy which the kindergarten class I was with falls under because that’s where I was able to get most of my information.)…

Over this past spring semester, I have obtained a total of 75 hours of field experience in the CCC Childcare UPK 1 classroom. My overall impression of the experience is that it truly exposed me to what it’s like caring for and teaching young children, and all the responsibility that accompanies it. I truly enjoyed my time in the UPK 1 classroom and after being there six hours a week, sometimes more, I feel a genuine connection to these children and the classroom. This entire experience taught me a lot, not only about early childhood education, but about myself and what I’m capable of. Working with four and five year olds opened my eyes to a way thinking that I had lost.…
