Preschool In Latin America Essay

In Latin America, twenty years ago, the idea of an early education program was not looked into very well. Today, there has been an increase in the use of preschools around the continent. "12 countries aim at providing three-year programs, 7 countries enacted two-year programs, and Ecuador offers a one-year preschool program." (The Latin America, page 3) These statistics show that there is a growing interest in preschools. This is very similar to the United States; the idea of preschool is widely popular among people in the United States. If you were to ask a person walking down the street, it would almost be a surprise to hear if they had not attended at least a pre-k class before entering Kindergarten. In preschool, you learn things like how to count or how to write your name, this way once you get to kindergarten they can focus on more advanced topics. …show more content…
There has also been an increase in Education in general in South America, education is very important to them as well as the people of the United States. Another similarity is that their education is compulsory. This means that until the age of 14 or 15 (16 in the United States) students are required to attend school. In both the United States or Latin America, upper-secondary education is not considered compulsory. By not making school compulsory till the age of 18, students might think that the best option for them is to quit school and get a low-paying job.
