As outlined previously, there were 3 domains from the CLASS use to conduct observations on a teacher and children in a preschool classroom. The 3 domains used to conduct the observations are Emotional support, Classroom organization, and Instructional Support. The Pre-K CLASS has 10 dimensions that are scored on a 7 point scale, from low to high with a score of 1 and 2 consider being in the low range; 3, 4, and 5 are mid-range; and 6 and 7 are a high range. In general, the quality of the classroom was very positive, in the middle-high ranges. With a score of 6.08 in the Emotional Support domain, the domain score was 6.08 indicates that the classroom score in the high range. According to the CLASS manual for Pre-K, “The high range description fits the classroom and/or teacher very well. All, or almost all, relevant indicators in the high range are present” (La Paro, Hamre, and Pianta, p.17, 2008). In the Classroom Organization domain, the domain score was 5.70 which this is in the middle-high range. With a score of 5.70, it means “The middle range description mostly fits the classroom and/or teacher, but there are one or two indicators in the middle range” (La Paro, Hamre, and Pianta, p.17, 2008). An example of positive climate is when Teacher Adam laughs and smiles with the child. On November 11, 2016, Adam and the child got up from the floor and walk toward the shelves by the windows. Adam grabs her blanket and folds the blanket and then asks the child to put on the shelves. Then, the child says “you did it wrong.” Adam replies “you silly” as he smiles and laughs. An example of teacher sensitivity is when Teacher Adam notices the child needed help when she calls out the word, “Help”. On November 11, 2016, Teacher Adam is standing by the outside door, talking to a teacher. A child calls out “I need help with my shoe.” Adam turns around and moves toward the child and lowers down to her level. He asks the child “Do you need help?” Then, he helps the child tie her shoelaces. An example of productivity is the transition at the center was quick and understandable. On November 3, 2016, Teacher Adam rings the bell using a musical instrument to indicate that it is time to clean up. He walks toward the children to “stop” and go back to clean up their areas.
