Preschool Classroom Observation

Improved Essays
In the last assignment, I had observed a preschool classroom to see if it was up to ECERS standards. I wanted to explore the environment in the preschool room to make sure the children are having as much hands on experiences as possible and that they have enough space in the room to play and learn. Identify those factors also; helps make the process of setting up preschool centers easier. After meeting with the teachers about the things I seen in the classroom, the teachers took it upon themselves to talk to a manager on helping them to change things in the room.

After a week, I went back into the classroom to see the changes the teachers have done and it looked great. The block area before, had no soft furnishing for the children

I love how they took the empty space and added the rugs. It is important to have rugs in the classroom because; rugs can help with cushioning a child’s fall. Having colorful educational rugs can help the room to feel more welcoming and, comfortable for the children. Another reason, why rugs are great to have in the classroom because, it offers self-learning, cognitive and imaginative play. For example, having a carpet with animals on it helps the children to identify what animal it is by name. Across from the block area is the kitchen area. Last time I was in the room I noticed that the kitchen area had too much clutter. There were too many shelves blocking areas that children couldn’t use. That also causes a blind spot for teachers to see the children in the room. Each area in the classroom needs to be visible at all times. The kitchen had so many large pieces of furniture, it made moving from once place to another difficult for teachers because, it was blocking the pathway. I loved how the teachers redone the kitchen “dramatic play” area. They removed the two large shelves that were taking up too much space and added a child-size round table with two chairs for the center. Along with a dress

It is a former science room, and has two doors: one that opens to the outside faculty parking lot, and another is the main entrance that students use to enter the classroom from A Hall. This classroom is much larger than some of the other classrooms in the building, probably because it used to have science laboratory capabilities. The classroom is inviting, with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s poster and quote lining one wall, and every day, an inspirational quote that illuminates her smart board that helps inspire students before the start of class. In addition, there is a teacher’s desk at both the front and back ends of the room, and the room is built to house about 30…

The school is laid out in a convenient manner with the offices, gym, library, and cafeteria fairly close to one another and not integrated into the class room area of the school. This keeps areas that may provide noise or distraction from interfering with a child’s classroom experience. Also the grades were somewhat separated and grouped together. The younger children's grades are located on the ground floor which is easier then having a young child walk up the stairs multiple times every day to reach the library, cafeteria, or classroom.…

Classroom Setting One of the first things I noticed when walking into Mrs. Curl’s classroom was how pleasant a place it was. Not only was it clean, neat, organized, and colorful, but it also possessed a fun, child-friendly element that made it look like a place any kid would enjoy spending long periods of time in. Mrs. Curl would play music softly in the background at the beginning of her class when the children were doing educational busy-word to keep them occupied until everyone arrived and she was ready to begin the lessons. This improved the atmosphere tremendously as the music was, at times, soothing and at other times fun, kid-friendly tunes that got the kids excited and happy.…

It can be very effective to use separate study areas beginning in the early grades since young children have minimal classroom expectations at that time. The use of segmented space, through furniture, rugs, or colored tape can teach learners that there are different expectations for different settings. By incorporating this design, the environment can become more conducive to learning. The additional benefit for this classroom style is that fewer verbal prompts are needed since rules and instructions are posted in each space.…

When I walked into the preschool classroom, I noticed it was very large and very spacious which allowed enough space for each child. Natural light, provided there was no glare in the room, was able to help students learn more effectively. Upon entering the class, I quickly noticed all the children curiously turn to look who I was while they were having large group time for half an hour. During that time, they sang songs, had calendar time and the teacher did an overview of the day. I was very impressed at how cooperative they were for her.…

Spending two and half hours in each classroom, I learned a great deal about early childhood education from ages birth through eight, and the effort and skills that it takes to create a stimulating learning environment. For my infant, toddler, and preschool observations, I spent my hours at the CCC Childcare Center located in our college while for my kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade observations, I spent my time at Casey Park Elementary School. During my observations at the CCC Childcare Center, I learned plenty about the methods and practices that go into early education before primary grades. The preschool classroom really stood out to me because the centers in the classroom were very open ended and filled with lots of manipulative for…

Being able to go out and observe in a classroom is something that makes me so excited to be a teacher in the future. I was able to observe a classroom and learn many techniques to encourage learning. On October 11 I went to Discovery Elementary School to observe in Mrs. Hibma’s classroom. This was a 3rd grade classroom, and this interested me because I would love to teach 3rd grade. There were 27 students in the classroom, which I found to be a large classroom.…

The environment of a classroom is a very important factor in a child’s education and should include a variety of centers, equipment, and space. Ideally the classroom will provide the students with different learning tools and stimuli in an area that does not feel overcrowded or cluttered. Children should be provided with an environment that is not over crowded with too many students and not enough resources- something that can be difficult in certain school systems. Overall the indoor environment for learning is one of the most important aspects of a child’s educational experience. The class observed in this paper was located in Elon Elementary School.…
