Reflective Essay On Preparing The Classroom

Preparing the Classroom One thing that almost every teacher I talked to while helping prepare classrooms for the first day of school said was, “preparing your classroom takes longer than you’d think.” I am grateful for the assignment to go in before school begins and help a teacher set up their classroom because it showed me how crazy preparing for the first day really is and how much time is needed for preparation. I did my participation hours at Cassville Primary School where I was able to help many of the teachers in first grade, but specifically Mrs. Crawford. During my participation hours, I was able to help set up “stop, drop, and go” packets, put name tags on desks, check computers, tear down word walls, and make all kinds of copies …show more content…
Mrs. Crawford had some good tips on classroom management. For example, she never sends a child to the principal unless they are harming themselves or someone else. She does this because she feels that sending a child to the principal sends the message that she does not want to deal with the child; that he or she is too difficult for her. She says that it losses the teachers authority when they regularly send students to the principal. In addition, the whole first grade will be using the clip chart system this year. If a student is doing well, their clip will be moved up and if it stays there, they could get a reward. If a student is being disruptive, then their clip will be moved down and they may have a consequence such as walking laps at recess. She shared with me about a student she had last year who was disruptive, so instead of getting him in trouble all the time, she did all she could to keep him focused. For example, during silent reading, he would always talk, so instead of getting onto him for talking to his neighbors, she allowed him to sit under her desk which kept him quiet and on task. From this story, I learned that knowing your students and what they need really helps with …show more content…
Some ways Mrs. Crawford plans to implement learning standards and GLE’s is by placing the codes in her lesson plan so that she knows she is covering those subjects. Before the school year begins, all the first grade teachers meet together and develop an order they want to complete the standards in throughout the year to build their individual lesson plans off. This helps make sure each teacher is on track and meeting those learning standards requirements. They also develop objective tests that use three, two, one instead of actual grades. All first grade teachers give the same objective tests each quarter. Mrs. Crawford also has a pacing guide in her calendar to help her stay on track with the standards throughout the school year as well as placing cards on her marker board of the objectives for the day for students to refer to. The last thing Mrs. Crawford shared about implementing standards is having the students write in a journal that helps them work toward hitting those standards throughout the school year. The journal entries get more challenging just as the standards

Describe how you manage student behaviors. Good classroom management starts on the first day of school. It does not work if you start out by being the “nice and fun” teacher. It is essential that my students know on the first day of school that I will not tolerate disrespect and chaos. On the first day of school I went over my class rules with the students and pointed out where the class rules are posted if students ever need reference.…

During this training, teachers will be acclimated to the conceptual understanding of this plan by the school administration. The entire training will be provided by the instructional coach and the school administration. At the conclusion of the second training session, teachers will design a calendar to schedule peer observations for informal reflections on the program. By October each pair will informally share progress of the program during grade level meetings on a monthly basis.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

All teachers performed great jobs at creating a unified classroom of learners. The students have favorable moments to act as chiefs and helpmates with individual responsibilities; their jobs are placed in a pocket folder on the wall. Students could participate in classroom activities in a variety of ways. Ms. Atkinson, Bell, Waldoky, and Gullekerson used a rocking chair during their teachable moments. I noticed around the classrooms, the teachers modeled supportive interactions with the students, and encouraged prosocial behavior.…

No matter where you go or went to school, you always have some type of English class that forces you to write papers. These papers usually has to be a certain way or over a certain topic. To me that was a pretty big problem for me because I could do free writing easy, but when you tell me to write about something that I don 't have any interest in and I have to follow your “rules”, then I will just try to blow it off. I have always hated the way Professors and the world had this “image” of their version of a “perfect” essay. I always messed up on the rules like where to put my commas or semicolons, that to me is the hardest part to not have a run- on sentence.…

During this time, I felt I was able to confidently encounter, converse, and assist the children with varying subject matters. At this point, the children even felt comfortable enough to ask me for help. Additionally, my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Jessica Diaz, is still extremely helpful and even allows me to teach the students in small-groups. By working in small-groups, I have been able to facilitate learning on an individualized level.…

RAP 5.1 Rules, Rituals, and Routines As I watched a first grade teacher, I attempted to pay close attention to her class and how she taught them. The teacher succeeded to reach all of the positive classroom management skills and avoided several of the poor transitions. In most instances, the class moved smoothly from one project to the next. Transitioning from bigger activities like classroom time to PE went much better. When walking to the next activities, the teacher placed on of the more advanced and non-troublesome students in the back of the line, front of the line, and also next to the students that may act out.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

My Classroom Management Philosophy I believe that classroom management plays a major role in creating a successful classroom. A successful classroom must be a safe learning environment, offer positive encouragement to encourage students to make the right choices, set rules that are understood by the students, and creating responsible students who can take control over their own work. This type of classroom is a major goal of mine because I feel as though the students would really benefit. I am committed to creating a safe environment and creating positive reinforcement within my classroom.…
