Jennifer,
I agree with you. Any kind of discrimination and racism in any shape or form should not be tolerated as it only results in prejudice towards an individual or a group. Stereotypes are often inaccurate as they are formed by applying generalizations about a group to an individual. Those who choose to discriminate against minorities know very little about that ethnic group and solely based their knowledge about that group from stereotypes. It is sad to learn that the Chinese had to keep quiet in order to survive in a society that did not accept them from who they are. Similarly to many minorities, this prejudice made the Chinese feel hopeless and weak as they could not fight back since the white man was in power. The phrase “Put up or

Racism has turned our society into one full of hate and discrimination based of skin color and cultural beliefs. Unfortunately, discrimination has done more than just separate individuals socially it has also divided them into high and low economic classes. We have created a society in which people who are born into lower classes are unable to climb the social ladder and reach an elite economic status. Our society has made it almost impossible for those who are not in power to ever reach such a position. We have created a society in which those who are suffering will continue to suffer and be looked at as a having no value or ability to contribute to the success of the economy and structure of society.…

This e-mail states that Hennigan met Complainant in the lobby at 740 N. Sedgwick approximately 2:30 p.m. Hennigan states that Complainant described an encounter that he had with an African-American woman (presumably Karen Simpson) at Desk A and wanted to complain to a supervisor about her. Complainant remarked that Simpson needs to be “talked to” about the way she does her job. Hennigan states that he asked Complainant what Simpson said, and Complainant said that he observed Simpson who was welcoming to Caucasians in line.…

Why is racism so deeply rooted among American history? Why is something as simple as skin color such subject to prejudice and discrimination in today’s society? The United States of America is built off of cruel acts of slavery and racism. So many white Americans did not realize that the acts they performed were horribly wrong and inhumane. They excused themselves simply because darker skin meant that that person was also inferior.…

A few degrading words that people use when referring to Mexicans are; Wetback, Spic, and Beaner, whether American or not. They also have many stereotypes against them such as lazy, machismos, drunks and many more. One of the main reasons they are discriminated against is because of their illegal immigration into the United States. Mexicans were left no choice but to cross illegally to seek a better life, because of the cost and many obstacles it made it difficult to become a citizen. Often they were forced to work physically demanding jobs for less pay due to non-citizens or lack of options, or because they wanted badly to be part of the U.S and saw themselves to be best off here even if wages were cheaper than back at home.…

Racism is the belief that belonging to a particular race means a person has inherent characteristics that one deemed either superior or inferior. Based on racist belief, prejudice and discrimination are still alive today, though important figures as Martin L. King Jr. lead the movements to end this and enact anti-segregation laws. These ideas are being transmitted to younger generations despite the progress that has been made. The minorities and people who are victimized by this injustice find it often difficult to focus on the task at hand and the goals they set out for. When victimized, people often respond in two ways: acting out in a violent manner, or fighting against others.…

As long as the American history goes, the majority race was White, but the demographics are changing. In the different waves of immigrants is when race played a huge factor. There was a lot of conflict within the white race amongst classifications. It was not until other races started entering the United States of America, that race was constructed. I really do not think that white would let go of their privilege in order to benefit all women, including women of color.…

Racism in not a new concept in the United States of America. It is something that we have all witnessed and experienced at one point in our life and even though at times it may not feel like it still exist, it certainly does. Social crowds and political parties have been saying that racism is an issue from the past that should be forgotten in order to reach equality among all races in the United States. However, discrimination has been a dilemma in our country since the early beginnings. Even though the civil rights of African Americans as well as other minorities have improved over the last couple of decades, racism is still prominent and continues to have a strong presence in our society.…

Racism "Racism couples the false assumption that race determines psychological and cultural traits with the belief that one race is superior to another." --A World of Difference project of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai Birth. As I read the quote above, I find it to be well defined and simply put in context what I truly believe about racism. Racism is described as the belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others, or, discrimination or prejudice based on race.…

Most people are not conciess about there own racism..talking about it makes them more aware of there own subconciess racist thought patterns which are derived from cultural conditioning and perhaps they may even be a artifact of evolution (Stereotyping is apparently a evolutionary characterstics as per some theories). This way people can take corrective actions conciessly against what is subconciesly ingrained in them. For example this forum itself is a great example of where dialog and talking about it leads to more awareness for everyone. Lots of discussions here lead to highly emotional responses, shouts and abuses .. but when all is said and done most people here do become aware of there own racism which by itself is a major improvement.…

Hunter Ramsay Exposure to the world grows as a person ages, as people mature they start to associate other people, animals, and even places with certain ideas. Parents will talk about something and their children will remember what they associated with that, and believe that everybody has the same association in mind. Though most stereotypes are FLAWED, many people NEGLECT the fact they are wrong with certain associations. Based on the image of a person or place, peoples minds are "primed" or "prepared" to react in a way based on past experiences. One of the most apparent issues in the world right now is racism.…

When I was in elementary school, one of my classmates saw a woman in a hijab and stated that Muslims hated Christians and Jews. This was very confusing to me, as my grandmother was a very devoted Muslim; however, she had only ever preached love and taught me to respect others and their opinions. I didn’t say anything, and with the same sense of initial confusion, went home to ask my mother if Grandma really did hate Christians and Jews. My mother, readily equipped for such a question, explained prejudice to me in the terms a child could understand. She told me that often times, people feared difference because they didn’t understand it.…

Most of my life I lived amongst varying races not including whites, while living in New York City. It wasn 't until I moved to Georgia with my parents to start high school was I really exposed to white people. Even then I still never directly experienced firsthand the prejudice feelings they harbored until my friend Angel who was a classmate at school died in a car crash. The school was really distraught and we were all called to the auditorium, in which I overheard two white boys talking to each other. Saying that all niggers were better off dead anyway.…
