Prejudice In Today's Society

Prejudice is a negative attitude toward a group or negative behavior towards members of a group. Prejudice has and seems to always be an issue that we face in today’s society. There are many different reasons why prejudice occurs and why they still exist today. Including past racial profiling, stereotypes and teaching that are passes on to each generations. Views on groups and types of people can be passed on through family beliefs, yet they all had to have started somewhere in that family.

Racial profiling is when people take actions onto members so racial or ethnic groups based on the assumptions of these groups and what actions they are mostly tied to. These seems to have begun many generations before our time but is still …show more content…
Many stereotypes can come from racial profiling. If there were a majority of African Americans that were to commit crimes in a society then instantly when the majority of people would see a colored person they would think of them as some type of criminal or more able to commit a wrong doing. Also, they can be seen as most likely to be poor and people tend to display victim-blaming rationalization. They may believe that it is their own fault that they are seen that way and if they were to just work harder and commit less crime they would be able to get out of poverty and be seen more superior. This also goes hand with foreigners being more intelligent or the “nerds” of a school. This making people think that if the foreign student were to get a good grade it wasn’t because of how much work they put into that course but more that they are naturally more intelligent. It starts with the decision changes and thoughts about racial and ethnic groups so that it can put a better thought into the new members of society. The right starting to the new generation’s minds will form the thoughts that will be displayed as they grow up and can start evolving the stereotypes and racial profiles that we believe today. It is not something that is going to happen overnight, it will be a process that may take many generations but eventually hopefully we will all be seen as equal.
