Prejudice In Dr. Seuss's The Sneetches

Decent Essays
Prejudice is the idea that a set of humans with a shared trait are better than other humans that do not have that trait. Usually, this trait is something physical, such as skin color, but it can also be a mental, like sexuality and personal believes including religion. Prejudice can be covert which is most common presently. Wage gaps, are a prime example. White women make less than men for the same amount and quality of work and colored women make less than white women. Prejudice is a behavior that is learned, capitalized upon, and aims to exclude people. Initially, real-world prejudice mirrors the prejudice scene in Dr. Seuss's the Sneetches. In both worlds, prejudice is taught, which is clearly shown by the Star Bellied Sneetch

Prejudism is Real “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite,” said Nelson Mandela, civil rights activist. This quote explains the prejudism going on in To Kill a Mockingbird because there’s judging going on with everyone and the young kids in the story don’t see why it happens because they weren’t born to discriminate. I think everybody is treated unfairly in some way or another and I think that no matter who you are or what you do, you’ll be judged by someone for it.…
