Prejudice In Beowulf

The more time progresses the more every aspect of our world evolves. Prejudice has become normal in our world today. In the epic Beowulf (Heaney), Grendel kills because he is henpecked by the noise aspiring from the meat hall (stupid reason), or that’s what they make it seem like. Although, in Beowulf and Grendel (Gunnarsson 2005), Grendel has a reason as to why he should kill individuals, but to the village he’s just simulated as troll or demon. In Beowulf the epic, Beowulf is exalted as a great everlasting king, who can never be cut from his high, yet in Beowulf and Grendel, Beowulf is merciful and not consistently bringing attention towards himself like he does in the epic. Beowulf is such a fearful and capable man in the epic. He does not believe in using swords or armor. Not so much that he doesn’t believe in using assurance but the strength he clenches within his body is too much to handle for the metal steel sword. Dangerously strong that when uses the sword to hit an object it breaks on impact due to the amount of pressure he puts behind the sword. In almost every major scene throughout the book, Beowulf, in some shape or form has to draw attention his way. One is a monster in the epic but an angry kind of grieving child in the movie who has almost every right to do what he wanted to do. Beowulf being a tough macho man who is untouchable to being a soft sensitive man by the end of the movie. Makes absolute no sense but allows you to see how different the creators are. They both have different view and also makes you see how things and folktales have changed throughout time. Not everything stays the same. Things have changed and will continue to change. For all you know by the time my kids read this Beowulf may by brothers with Grendel. Never expect things to say the same. Everything
