Anyone has the right to have their own opinion, but not the right to harm others. When I first watched the video prejudice, by Bill Cosby I got a little anger of what he had said about old people and children, but what got me upset was what he said about Mexicans, that’s because I don’t consider myself Mexican, I am. He was stereotyping the races mentioned in his video. Students and I identified ourselves with a particular race. One last word of wisdom to help fight the urge to judge others, when you notice a weakness that a person displays, rather than judge them for their shortfall, stop and recall a weak moment in your own life. Number 1: There was a video on Facebook titled When it’s valentines day and she not trynna let you hit in which a black male if featured with orange juice putting a pill of something into it while the Bill Cosby theme plays in the background. I looked at the comments and was absolutely disgusted! One brave teenager addressed that it was promoting rape and how that is not something that is appropriate to promote, many people jumped on her with comments like “It’s a joke, get over it” and using awful slurs against her. Many of the commentators were men and a few women, all of these comments were painful to read, they used no logic to back up their claims other than it was a joke, it then turned to how some people thought that Bill Cosby was innocent…

Throughout the Civil Rights Movement, African Americans gained more rights than ever before. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 made voting more accessible, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed racial discrimination in public accommodations, and public figures like Jackie Robinson revolutionized predominately white aspects of American culture. During their time on American soil, African Americans went from slaves, to compensated slaves, to oppressed citizens. Despite these significant advancements, the United States had a long way to go before it could accurately call itself “a nation with liberty and justice for all,” as stated in its Pledge of Allegiance. Racism continued, it was just no longer endorsed by the federal government.…

Discrimination, prejudice, and racism occurred many times in the past and it still occurs today. It happens in many different ways, in many different forms, at many different times, and to many different people. People do it even though it is cruel, they do it because they don’t realize it is wrong, they are going through bad times, or they are brainwashed into doing these things. There are so many things in the world that I hate. That includes: racism, homophobia, animal cruelty, and so much more. I feel like there are so many people in the world that are treated so unfairly for the things they wear, what they do, how they look like, what their sexuality is- and just doesn’t make any sense. People should always be treated equally with respect, and not have to live a life full of discrimination. I think that all of this is getting out of hand these days, considering the fact that it's been making victims suicidal and depressed.…
