The film titled Pride and Prejudice and Zombies can be easily described as a melodrama tearjerker and a women's film. It has several characteristics that make it fit into such genre. One of the very obvious reasons is there is a love story develops between the main characters, although the love story is not a conventional one. Darcy's and Lizzy’s love story begins with him criticizing her and she accidentally over hearing. This develops tension between them. Lyden’s description of a melodrama fits this love story perfectly because she is defying the gender roles that women should be compliant. Lyden’s description of a “bad women” describes Lizzy, she knows how to fight and she is willing to stand her ground no matter what may be said of her.
