Back in the day and even now some races think they are better than others. Without offending or showing any type of favoritism, in the book “Black Boy” the white thought they were better and superior than the black people. “White people want you out there way” (0) was a phrase that Richard used in the book to express his feelings. He grew up in a state where there was a lot of racism he felt the hate grow upon him. He felt that when he was doing good, a white person would come in and try to tear him down. He lived through physical violence where the white would try to make him feel less. There were situations where he was verbally abused. These are all different types of ways that the white people would use to harm them; all because they fall into stereotypes. “I was doing something that I was to do countless times in the years to come” (1.2. )is a mindset that Richard had to sucess. Yes he was brought down at times because of the racism that surrounded him. But it didn’t bring him down because that's not who he was. He wanted to show everyone that he can be something better than what they thought about him. Which everyone deserves to have, no matter the race, age, and time an individual belongs
