Myers defines prejudice as a preconceived negative judgement of a group and its individual members. Given this definition, I believe the IAT does measure prejudice to an extent, I believe that it is focused more on measuring implicit attitudes. Some individuals are often startled when they receive their results, because they did not believe that for example, they have a stronger association with European Americans with positive words and African Americans with negative words. The IAT results show biases towards a group over another, but this does not necessarily mean that an individual who scored a strong automatic preference for European American compared to African Americans are prejudice against African Americans it may have more to do with the in-group verses out-group phenomenon.
