Prejudice And Discrimination In The Film The New Girl

“It’s that they don’t discriminate, they just don’t hire.” Discrimination and prejudice has been an issue world wide every since the 1400s. People always had hatred towards African Americans based solely off of their skin color and sadly till today, still do. However, discrimination and prejudice happens not only to blacks but to other minority groups. For an example, people may discriminate or be prejudiced against people who are homosexuals. “The New Girl” historic film is centered around racial and ethnic discrimination and prejudice against an African American woman within the workplace. Even though some people believe that discrimination and prejudice is identical, there are some key differences as well as some key similarities. Prejudice is unjustified behavior towards someone and prejudging people as if they are inferior to yourself. These are pre-formed opinions of people. Since prejudice is a learned attitude, it allows people to follow stereotypes made by people. Stereotypes such as all black people are criminals. Discrimination includes all actions that people use against others that they show prejudices for but can also consist of passive aggressive behavior or refusing to hire someone based off of race, gender, or religion. This is evident in the “The New Girl”, in which an employer does hire an African American.
