Prejudice And Discrimination In 'Remembering The Titans'

Prejudice or one’s negative attitude to minorities and discrimination the way behave towards those same minorities have always existed in our society, despite many studies being undertaken that have led to new theories, supposedly reducing these attitudes. Today we still see all these undesirable qualities being shown. Hence it can be a very sensitive topic to talk about however there are movies and other means of media that broadcast this idea that prejudice and discrimination can be stopped in its tracks.
Freedom Writers sees a group of students, many of different ethnicities put into to the same class at school. It is up to Mrs. Gruwell, the class teacher to get all the students to work in the same environment free of any Prejudice and discrimination. Slowly but surely Mrs. Gruwell uses strategies to eradicate prejudice and discrimination. A very similar method was used in Remembering the Titans, Coach Boone and Coach Yoast work together to bring a mixed-race Football team, despite all the prejudice and tension to ultimately win the

This is known as the “jigsaw classroom” that will be explained in more detail later, however, this meant that the desegregated groups must rely on each other to learn or achieve a goal. For example, the use of desegregating the bus in Remembering the Titans and in Freedom writers the class arrangement was mixed. After they must rely on each other they are shown a time in history where this prejudice destroyed lives. The impact of the Holocaust on the Jewish population was shown in Freedom writers after a photo of Jamal Hill, one of the students were passed around. The cemetery of the Battle of Gettysburg was shown to the team in Remembering the Titans. Next, each cohort would experience something that would make each member more aware and understanding of each
