Artwork in the Ancient Egyptian time period reached a high level in painting and sculpture, and was both greatly stylized and symbolic. Their artwork was very conservative in style with a vivid representation of their economic status and beliefs. Much of their artwork was subjected around their belief in the concept of the human soul and commemorating their gods and kings. Most sculptures and body structures are idealized and look very similar. Even the poses of the artwork are relatively the same throughout the entire Ancient Egyptian reign.

This long process of embalming the dead was an extravagance reserved for pharaohs, whose mummies were placed in luxurious tombs or pyramids along with riches, foods, furnishings, and anything else to comfort them in the afterlife. The Ka was one of three parts of the soul; it remained in the burial tomb using the offerings and objects placed within it. This belief led to artwork being created for the purpose of pleasing the Ka. For example, the Death Mask of Tutankhamen shows just how important it was to please the Ka. Another example is the Great Pyramid of Giza. That giant structure was built for the purpose of housing the mummified remains of the pharaoh Khufu and his Queen. This belief in the human soul and an afterlife influenced Ancient Egyptian artwork for generations.
