Personal Narrative: The Birth Of A Baby

The birth of a baby is nothing short of a miracle. Holding your newborn baby in your arms for the first time is an indescribable feeling. An array of mix emotions pulses through you. For me, it was a true feeling of ecstasy, a feeling I have never felt until the moment I held my daughter for the first time, a feeling I would never feel again until I delivered my other two children.
From reading Chapter 2 in the textbook “Invitation to the Life Span” and watching the documentary “The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy” along with my own personal experience I have learned quite a bit about the various stages of pregnancy. Such as, normal pregnancy lasts a duration of forty weeks, starting from the woman’s last menstrual period. The 9 months are divided

This is the most exhilarating stage of pregnancy. Mother is now noticeably pregnant as the fetus continues to grow inside of her. This causes her uterus to expand, to the point it no longer fits in the pelvic region but pushing into the abdominal cavity. (The Ultimate guide to pregnancy) Mother will also begin to feel her baby’s first movements, growing the bond between mother and child. Another sensation is learning the sex of your child, “by twenty weeks, baby’s sex organs are detectable by ultrasound,” (The Ultimate guide to pregnancy) It is around this time, the fetus is able to hear mother’s heartbeat and the sounds outside their fluid-filled environment. Mother is still able to move around comfortably, therefore, exercise is still greatly encouraged in this trimester. By the end of the sixth months, the baby will have grown significantly to about “twelve inches and weigh approximately 2 pounds.” …show more content…
However, I did find the development of the embryo to be quit fastening. For one, I had no idea that the embryo heart cells “begin their first erotic flutters,” right after conception. I was under the consumption that these flutters first began at week 4. I also thought it was interesting how Dr. Ian Galliano described organ development as a “well-conducted orchestra.” (The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy) Bringing to light the importance of each organ developing at precisely the right time. Up until this point, I did not know that a gene needed to be “turned on,” for development of the organs to take place.
Another interesting fact that I learned was that the fetus begins looking like a human baby by 7 weeks. I was under the consumption that this took place more towards the end of the first trimester. Another interesting fact I learned was that the baby secretes a hormone to initiate labor. Until this point, I assumed that labor started spontaneous.
Pregnancy is in my opinion, the most beautiful, rewarding experience in a woman’s life. The beginning of a new chapter that will continue throughout her lifetime, changing her life

The brain is also explained to be very strong during the third trimester since the age of viability occurs between the twenty- second and twenty-sixth week of gestation. Of course there is also strong presence of development presented in its entirety in this course, and since the fetal brain hasn’t been fully analyzed it’s possible that it could be capable of so much more than that of simply meeting physiological needs as presented by the current establishment of development. It’s truly phenomenal what is unknown of the mature brain which can be more easily studied, now only to imagine what is unknown of the fetal brain arises many questions. Could the life growing inside the womb already have a “blueprint” of what it will be like as a child, a teenager, an adult? According to Bell the studies he introduced haven’t had any significant advances in the medical field, yet it is hoped that the future will bring further answers to the endless questions on everyone’s…

Abortion is one of the most controversial and hotly debated topics of this day and age. The reason for this surrounds the idea of whether the induced expulsion of the fetus is murder or rather in the interest of the mother. Pro-life activists debate that all life in the instant of its conception is innocent and deserves a chance at life. God chooses its time of life and death, not the mother. Pro-choice followers often argue in favor of science and the United States Constitutional Ninth Amendment, which holds freedom of choice sacred.…
