Teen Pregnancy In Oklahoma Teenage pregnancy is a major conflict in today’s society, and the fact that parenting is a very demanding job makes it even harder for teen parents to raise children themselves. Over the course of several decades, teenage pregnancy rates have grown dramatically, did you know Oklahoma ranks number four in the United States for teen pregnancy? Teenagers, unaware of the risks and consequences, decide to allow themselves in sexual activities. These consequences include pregnancy of course, financial struggle, health and emotional problems, relationship instability, and even single parenting; all which have a tremendous impact in a teenager's life.

Many places require a high school diploma or for the person being hired to be over the age of eighteen. That being said, many teens who experience an unintended pregnancy are less likely to obtain a high school diploma. As a high school student, school should be top priority, but with a baby on the way, instead worrying about friends and graduation they focus on hospital visits and money. When these factors play such an important role in a teen parents life it's hard not to think or worry about them. All this is stressful and for a teen to handle; it may be too difficult. Depression is defined as "Feelings of severe despondency and dejection- a mental condition characterized by feelings of severe despondency and dejection, typically also with feelings of inadequacy and guilt, often accompanied by lack of energy and disturbance of appetite and sleep." (English dictionary, def. 1) When a teen becomes depressed, it increases the chances of a possible miscarriage putting at risk the health and wellbeing of the mother. At such a young age a miscarriage may leave deep scars that time will never heal. The body never heals properly and this may cause sterilization meaning that a teen, no matter how much they want to; will never become pregnant again.
