Pregnancy and childbearing practices in Purnell’s model include different rituals performed, methods of birth control, and views on pregnancy. In my culture we perform no fertility rituals (Purnell). Contrary to my parent’s beliefs on birth control, I believe it is a necessary precaution. My views on pregnancy are pretty open. I believe it is okay to have sex before marriage, but know that pregnancy and diseases are a risk one takes when partaking in sexual activities.

Of Purnell’s 12 domains I would find communication and health care practices the most difficult to accommodate.
Communication is crucial in a hospital and with so many people moving to the United States, this means I will be exposed to multiple languages. I can work to fix this dilemma by seeking out a foreign language class, keeping a language translator app on my phone, or by having a personal translator with me when I am tending to a patient who speaks a different language.
One other difficulty I could see myself facing with a patient would be one’s health care practices. I am a big proponent of seeking professional help when needed; however, others may have a different opinion. I for one know that my boyfriend refuses to go to the doctor for anything. This bothers me to no end and I know this would be a difficult scenario for me if one of my patients didn’t come to the hospital when they should have. I also don’t believe in self-medicating or magic as a form of health care. I know this domain will be the most difficult for me to overcome, but with the patient 's best interest in mind I will work to better understand their point of view and work to respect them and their
