Preconceived Perceptions

Decent Essays
Did you have preconceived notions about your interviewees' responses?

I didn’t have any preconceived notions about my interviewees' responses because I thought they would respond the way they did because we asked questions about their life in Kenya. Also, we can’t assume something different because we don’t know their lifestyle that well. So, I didn’t know much about Kenya.

Did these notions change once you listen to/read their responses?

No, because they answered the questions honestly or how they felt about something, so it didn’t change my notions. I felt like I could relate to them about some challenges they face in their life. Also, they had a similar vision as us after they done university.

The image available to voters of a candidate from the perspective of the media is a distorted picture, impacted by a number of factors such as the media pushing their own agenda, sound bites taken out of context, the narrative of political rivals against the candidate etc. However, the public perception of a candidate is made out of these attributes, whether this persona is asserted by the candidate themselves or proposed by political pundits, which may be true to the character or a more subjective view based on the politics of the person painting this one or two dimensional picture. This picture becomes all the more complicated and challenging when the candidate is first introduced to the public as a “spouse “ of a candidate or officeholder.…
