Precious experiences a horrendous amount of trauma over her lifetime from the age of three. Precious at the age of three began being sexually abused by her father which lasted over ten years all the while being physical and emotionally abused by her mother as well. She carried two of her father’s children. One of which went to live with her grandfather, and the other son she begins to raise on her own. Although Precious has a low IQ and low self-esteem, she begins to connect with peers in her alternate high school and as a result has a good amount of social support. Based on her positive relationship with Ms. Rain, Precious is able to take confident action based on their empowering relationship. By the end of the film Precious is committed
