The films: Vodou Kingdon, Divine Horsemen, The King Does Not Lie, and Rastamentary explore Afro-Carribean religions by studying, and filming the practices of the Vodou, Santería and Rastafarian religions. These films depict different practices, rituals, ceremonies, ways of living and thought processes. Each film is uniquely diverse, depicting the religions in different ways. The films not only highlight its religion of focus, but it also highlights their connections to Africa, allowing viewers to easily identify similarities within these Afro-Caribbean religions.…
All around the world there have been many cases of sexual and physical abuse against women. Such is the case in “Bluest eye” by Toni Morrison and the movie “Their Eyes were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston. Likewise, in Natacha Clerge contemporary review that shares a similar perspective. In all three works there is a horrible turn of events that leads to desperate measures.…
If Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) in North by Northwest is noted for his boldness and nonchalance combined with personal charm, Manny Balestrero (Henry Fonda) in The Wrong Man for his humility, calm and composure, then Grace Kelley can be seen as an embodiment of pluck courage and self-confidence at its heroic heights. America is well known for its plucky courage and mettle/fortitude they displayed during the two world wars. Hitchcock could well appreciate it living in Hollywood as a British citizen having his roots in Britain. Hollywood films have exhibited this bravado time and again while projecting the American characters as part of the myth making structure. Small courage usually never finds its way in genre films which included…

We opted to view the film Alice Sweet Alice, directed by Alfred Sole for three reasons. The first, and primary reason that we selected this films is that it is a part of the slasher-film genre, which is our favorite genre of horror films. These films generally have a more fascinating, twisted, and gore-filled storyline then their horror-film counterparts. This film, unlike many others predating 1980, has a very frightening and intimidating film trailer. It is often said that one cannot judge a book by its cover, however, in relation to horror films, the trailer often gives an audience good insight on what to expect.…

In general, the film Precious attacks sex, race, and power. From an ethical point of view the film Precious displays situations for many real life victims of physical, social, and verbal abuse. Precious also reinforces the weight of white America shown by power and privilege and how society is favored upon white privilege. Later on in the film when precious breaks away from her crooked home and is able to live her own life, that part is heartwarming. Precious is one of many films in the last couple of years that touches America in some aspect.…
In watching this film, Cinderella serves as the unconditioned stimulus while the Prince falling in love with her beauty is the unconditioned response. Watching this film evokes the perception that women need to rely on their beauty and male machismo in order to be saved from their lives of misery. This film portrays women as being both weak and insignificant without a male figure to rescue…

Introduction The film I’m reviewing is “Finding Nemo”. This movie is about the journey of an overprotective father named Marlin trying to rescue the last remaining child named Nemo, who has been taken from his home by divers to Sydney to become pet for the niece of a dentist, who us known to kill fishes accidentally. Throughout, the movie, the main characters had to go through many problems, like the fact that Marlin has to be overprotective of Nemo due to the past when he lost his wife, and he is afraid of losing Nemo too, but through these events, it helped our characters believe that there is good around them, even though things are going bad. Brief Summary…
This film has brought a lot of things forward to my attention. I was not aware of the number of rapes that happen specially in my age group. I was so upset to see the approach colleges took toward the rape issue. When you are in a college campus it is not a judge it is not a police man that is supposed to protect, you it is your campus. The campus should be a safe place where you feel like you’re in your home protected by your family.…
This movie starts by introducing Claireece “Precious” Jones, a very miserable 16 year old living in urban Harlem who fantasizes about being “normal”. Her mother, Mary played by Mo’Nique, has a daily routine of watching TV, smoking cigarettes and cruelly oppressing her daughter by treating her like a slave, telling Precious that she wishes she would have abort her, and repeatedly telling her that she is nothing. The psychological abuse and manipulation is only underlying to the physical and sexual abuse that this character has endured, Precious is pregnant again for the second time by her father and is on the verge of being kicked out of school. It is not a single isolated incident, as we have learned in class, but a pattern of psychologically…
