These are all equally important in the role of a nurse and should all be attained before a student is allowed to complete a placement. The two domains that I will focus on in this essay are; Domain two: Holistic Approaches to Care and the Integration of Knowledge, and Domain four: Organisation and Management of Care (An Bord Altranais, 2014). These domains are focused on in the clinical area b the student and the preceptor. One must develop a skill to prioritise tasks and delegate others accordingly. The preceptor must ensure that the student takes iniative but also works as a member of the team. It is important that the preceptor uses good management and organizational skills when teaching the student how to organize and manage care. When a preceptor uses good management and organizational skills the student will learn by mimicking the preceptor. A preceptor should always be a good role model for the student the student should always have a good example to follow and that should be the preceptor’s example (Flynn and Stack, 2006).
The writer concludes that a preceptor’s role is to teach and support a student throughout his or her clinical practice. When a preceptor has a student it is important that he or she knows that being a good role model is most important. This facilitates the student learning by example which the writer found was the easiest way to learn in the clinical area. It is however important that nursing students do not only learn by example but question the reasoning behind practices and use reflection time to find the evidence behind why that practice is used (Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt,
