Another great example for production design in science fiction movies is the movie Ex Machina. To begin with, production design includes the design of sets which makes set design one of the most important aspects while producing a movie. For example, one of the points set design deals with is the location where the film is going to be shot. Funderburg (2015) explained that in the movie Ex Machina, they used two Norwegian locations both designed by the architects Jensen & Skodvin. One of the locations is a private mansion and the second one is the Juvet Landscape Hotel, which consists of single suites secretly linked to the fjord and forest around them (para. 2).…

We interact and experience architecture every day. It is physically impossible not to and because of this, it is incredibly easy to take it for granted and to forget about all the thought and care that was taken to create such huge feats. Worcester’s Union Station is located directly off of highway 190 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Thousands of people pass by it on a daily basis without even realizing that it is something more than a “pretty train station”. Before we begin, let’s answer the question of just why are train stations so grand?…

Construction of the Concrete Roof of the Assembly Hall The University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign Assembly Hall has been the home of the Illini men’s basketball team for over half a century and has been one of the greatest engineering and architectural feats on campus ever since its creation over half a century ago. Beginning on May 25, 1959, construction of the Assembly Hall was carried out by structural engineers Othmar Ammann and Charles Whitney, general contractor Felmley-Dickerson Co., and architect Max Abramovitz, taking almost four years of construction before its completion on May 3, 1963. The Assembly Hall was an engineering wonder when it was first constructed, as it was the first ever concrete dome arena built and remained to be until the construction of the Astrodome in Houston, Texas two years later. Weighing over 4000 tons from only the roof, the concrete dome of the Assembly Hall spans at a 400 feet diameter, 128 feet tall, and built with a folded plate design in about 3.5 inches in thickness.…

The Rose that Grew From Concrete by Tupac Shakur helped me understand more about tolerance because in most of the poems he’s talked about his struggles. In his poem “Life Through My Eyes” Tupac wrote “[l]ife through my bloodshot eyes/ would scare a square 2 death/ poverty, murder, violence” (11), and that is him talking about the things he’s seen and been through. Later in the poem he wrote “[b]ut mark my words when I say/ my heart will not exist/ unless my destiny comes through/ and puts an end 2 all of this” (Shakur 11) because, to me, those lines are him looking forward in life and tolerating all the poverty, murder and violence he witnesses because he knows that his destiny will come and put an end to all of that. Also, in the poem “Genesis…

In the middle to late 1900’s Phil Spector was an American producer, musician, and songwriter whose popularity spiked to the top after developing the Wall Of Sound also called Spector’s Sound. Withstanding establishment of the common stereo and preferring to have various instruments combined in a single monaural track, Spector composed this technique at the Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles. Conforming relatively facile equalizations aided in his popularity because his approach was crucial to avoid sounding like the “nonsense” that many teenagers at that time listened to on transistor radio. He included two major things in his production of music; reverb, an electronically produced echo effect in recorded music, and layering, different instruments…
