“We the People of the United States…”, many Americans know the famous introduction; The Preamble. The Preamble is the introduction of Constitution, stating six set objectives for the country. To create a perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty. The overall purpose of America’s Preamble is to create a perfect country for everyone, which many other countries want to achieve as well. What does the Preamble mean to other countries, specifically to those that had their Preamble rewritten? According to Japan’s, India’s, Germany’s, France’s Preamble they were greatly damaged. Out of those three countries, Japan was impacted severely. Document 1, Preamble to Constitution of Japan, 1946, states they wanted to live in a world of peace. “We desire to occupy an honored place in an international society striving for the preservation of peace, and the banishment of tyranny and slavery, oppression, and intolerance for all time from earth”. India’s Preamble, document 2, may be short but in their wise words explain their affected nation after the war. Focused within their document are four purposes. Their democratic republic will ensure justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity for their nation. Germany’s was written in the same year as India’s, 1949, and is short as well, but hits hard. Like Japan, their purpose was to maintain peace. “Conscious of their responsibility before God and men, animated by the purpose to serve world peace as an equal part in a unified Europe…”. France as well was affected. Their Preamble, similar to India’s, also had three objectives: liberty, equality, and
