Pre Writing Process

Pre writing is the first phase associated with the writing process along with drafting, revising, editing, and publishing (Alber-Morgan, Hessler, & Konrad, 2007). I personally do not have a very in depth formal pre writing process. I begin each assignment by watching the weekly lecture and taking notes on things that pertain to the discussion post and complete section. Next, I write down various topics and contemplate them over night. I can formulate my ideas better whenever I physically write them out versus when I sit in front of a computer screen and try to type. Studies have indicated that by writing down abstract categories, participants were able to generate a higher number of ideas later on in the brainstorming phase (Deuja, Kohn, Paulus and Korde, 2014).

Without prewriting it would be almost impossible to make all your thoughts and ideas blend together in a manner that the reader comprehends. With that being said, I do not believe that one form or pre writing is more effective than another. I think that each person possesses their own unique

This is where brainstorming ideas have benefited me the most. Another weakness I face associated with writing is getting my thoughts together in a way that is comprehendible by the reader. With the classes that I have previously completed at Bethel, I have not utilized an outline to begin my essays. Although, I believe that by utilizing an outline this could help alleviate the problem of determining the exact topics that I will write about and how to structure the information to create an incredible

As an inexperienced writer, I often find myself looking at a blank page on my computer and wondering what my point is and how I will be able to express it. This English 101 class has helped me in variety of ways in gaining and shaping skills in writing. I learned how do compose several types of essays including: professional, informal, casual, cause and effect, and argumentative and was given the format for writing these. Every week, the class was given one of these types of essay to write and throughout the class periods, I would start and finish them. Although learning new things, like writing, was something that I loved doing in elementary school, that all changed when it was daily implemented. If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…

I form an outline and organize my ideas into one space which helps me understand what my main points are and helps me understand how I could My weaknesses are poor time management, getting distracted, and procrastination till the last minute to finish my essays. I do not revise my essays very much besides taking into consideration my peer’s comments. I need to give myself more time to work on my second draft and the revision of that second draft; I usually stay up late writing this essay and I would like to space out my work over a period of time instead of cramming it two days before the essay is due. I usually get distracted when typing an essay because I go through different social media websites and browse through them until I realize that I have to finish my essay; I usually watch videos on YouTube or message my friends on Facebook; I should limit myself from distractions by putting away my phone or even having a post-it note reminder to not stray away from my essay because I will regret it when I am still working on my essay at 2:00 in the morning.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
