Pre-Veterinary Doctor Application

In this country we are blessed with the privilege to choose how we want to spend the rest of our lives. I could choose to be an astronaut, lawyer, teacher, or anything else. The options are endless, but I choose to be a Veterinary nurse. Some may find working with animals dirty or disgusting but I find it rewarding and pleasant. All of my life I have been an animal lover and wanted to help any animal in need. When I was young, I would beg my mom to save the puppy or kitten on the side of the road.Normally she would stop to rescue the animal in need and the next day we would take it to the shelter. That was the most I could do then. When I reached the age of fifteen I was old enough to volunteer at my local SPCA. The weekend after my birthday I went to orientation and began doing what I loved most. Fast forwarding to my senior year in high school, last semester I had the privilege to intern at Kings Mountain Animal Clinic. This O’Henry Internship was an eighty hour program that I went to every day during one class block. Having this experience and behind the scene knowledge showed me that I do have what it takes to do this job. Now it is time for me to get an education on the subject.

As I begin my new life as a college student I plan to major in Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Roanoke College.

My dream job is to become a Veterinary Nurse. After getting the experience of what it is like in an Animal Clinic I am choosing this career over a Veterinarian. I realize that Veterinarians play a huge role in the industry but the nurses are much needed and there is a high demand for them too. When I was at the animal clinic I noticed that the Veterinary Technicians and Nurses were much more involved with the patients whereas the Veterinarians did not interact near as much. With that being said I want to have full contact with the animals and help them in any way

My personal interest is mixed animals; I would be working with not only companion animals, such as dogs and rabbits, but I would be working with horses and livestock as well. During the final year of veterinary medical school, the student will be required to prepare and register for the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination. The NAVLE is comprised of 360 multiple-choice questions.…

My desire to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science Technology stems from my childhood, which was shaped by a constant exposure to animals. My interest in companion animals and their veterinary care peaked about 7 years ago when I began to volunteer with a service dog training organization called ECAD. When I first started, I learned about basic grooming and training techniques by practicing on mature Golden Retrievers. I gradually worked my way up to being able to work with dogs that ranged from about 2 months old to 2 years old. Currently I am the only youth volunteer who holds a Public Access license, which allows me to bring dogs into public places for training.…

From the second grade I thought I wanted to be a Veterinarian when I grew up. Of course no one would expect a second grader to know such details, but as I went through high school my mind never strayed away from my future goal. Senior year I got the opportunity to intern at Big Goose Veterinary Clinic where I fell in love with the practice even more. I scrubbed in on surgerys, interacted with clients, and cuddled up on animals all day. It was not until I started noticing how exhausted the doctor's always were before I changed my mind.…
