Pre-Veterinary Career Aspirations

Throughout our lives as adolescents we are asked “what do we want to become?” I have contemplated what I wished to do with my life for quite a while and I was inspired by constants in my life ever since I was little. I remember always having a pet by my side to comfort me when I was unhappy and play with me when I was alone. The catalyst for my decision was whenever I lived on a busy street with cars constantly speeding through every day. One sunny day I went to the car to retrieve something from the car with my pug by my side. Suddenly, he wandered out into the street and I saw his body flip under a car's tires. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I remember rushing around to pet hospitals with my Mom trying to find a veterinarian …show more content…
B was suffering is the reason why I want to be a science major whenever I begin my college career. After fulfilling the requisites I plan on applying for a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. Generally, these programs are challenging to be accepted into. According to the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges about fifty percent of applicants end up attending the program. Currently, I plan on attending the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri to participate in their pre-veterinary program while limiting debt as much as possible. After I finish their requisites I will transfer to the University of Missouri’s Veterinary program which is widely recognized as one of the best in the nation.
The benefits that this scholarship will bring to me is the ability to get ahead, which, is important in any field. This is especially important whenever you want to apply for a competitive program. Unfortunately, at the moment it seems almost impossible to reach this goal. My Mom has been trying her best to save some money for my college expenses but that’s a difficult feat whenever you are trying to pay for other living expenses as a single parent.
