Pre Test Impact Study

Overall, the students scored well, when all of the questions were put together. When looking at each individual pre-test, only four students passed with proficiency. Proficiency passing, in Newport News, means that a student will have a grade equal to or above seventy percent. Other students had scores ranging from zero to sixties. No student received a grade of one hundred percent. With the pre-test it showed that I needed to teach how to write the fractions using sets, shading in the correct fraction, writing in the fraction for the shaded portion, and figuring out which is the numerator and denominator. When looking at specific students’ tests, I saw the struggle of answering questions and some students who attempted questions but had no comprehension of fractions. Some students took a …show more content…
The pre-test was very eye opening in what the students knew and did not know. It was very helpful because I knew I did not have to focus too much on halves and fourths. The main reason for this is because in First Grade, those are the main ones they teach their students. There was not one question that every single student got correct, so there was always room for growth. My SMART goal is that during the week (March 14th-18th) of my impact study on fractions, 85% or 15 students will pass with a satisfactory grade of seventy percent or above as measured by their pre and post- test scores. Also, all students will improve their scores by twenty percent between pre and post-test scores. The reason I chose this goal is because the questions asked on the two tests are a basic foundation of fractions. The students must have a firm understanding of the foundation before they move into more complex skills and concepts. All students should be able to increase their scores by at least twenty percent. It is important that all students increase their scores and therefore their knowledge of fractions to have the basic

As a whole, the class average was around 60% percent, meaning the class is on the developing or adequate level of understanding the learning objective. A quarter of the class passed the assessment with 85 or better, which is considered a mastery under the math curriculum followed. Half the class scored a 65 or less. This shows that these students have a minimal to no understanding of the concept being taught. 8 out of the sixteen students understood procedurally and conceptually how to compare to objects with a third object.…

In today's media coverage, we frequently hear of problems in the education system across the nation. Many communities are concerned about the quality of education being received by their students. For instance, in "10 Major Challenges” Grace Chen examines some major issues in education being bullying and family problems making an impact on the learning aptitude of many students in today’s society. This is echoed in Alvin P. Sanoff in “High school fails to engage students,” when he explains that students don’t spend the sufficient time doing their homework or studying yet still obtain an A or B in their high school course. However, when they go to college, most students tend to take remedials because they were not accustomed to taking challenging…

Throughout time, many colleges and universities have assigned a great deal of weight to standardized test results as a part of the admissions criteria. However, over the past recent years the objective behind standardized testing being a good indicator of college success has been questioned nearly across the board. While college admissions boards have been using standardized testing since the early 1900s to evaluate students’ potential academic performance, questions have arisen as arguments take the approach of eliminating them from the college admissions process or to further their reasoning and come to the agreement that it is indeed a good indicator of future college success. The topic of college admissions criteria is one that…

The fifth CEC initial preparation standard is about instructional planning and strategies, which, like the fourth standard, is also under the focal theme: instructional pedagogy (Council for Exceptional Children, 2012). This standard requires initial-level special education teachers to learn to adapt and use instructional strategies, technology-based or not, according to students’ abilities, interests, learning environments, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and IEP or transition plans in order to improve students’ learning. I believe that the courses, SPED 5365 Instructional Processes with Exceptional Children and SPED 5366 Modification of Curriculum and Instruction for the Atypical Learner meet this standard.…

Chapter eight section four was about functions, and chapter eight section five is about coordinate system. North Carolina’s standardized testing system has recently been under fire from parents, students, and even education leaders. Many locals feel this testing is placing undue pressure on students and teachers. A recent study found that twenty-five percent of a school year is spent preparing for and taking standardized tests (Kamenetz). A local parent, Eric Malone, expressed his concern by saying “The quality of education has dropped because this system only sees students as a number”. The current system is only interested with an improvement of test scores, not an increase in learning within the classroom, yet little is being done to cause change within the testing system.…
