Pre-K Classroom Observation

My observation was done on a Pre-K class room at a local Kinder Care Learning Center around 4:30pm in the afternoon. During this time the teachers are preparing the children to leave for the day. The class room was set up to show that the kids were preparing for regular school and not just spending their entire day napping and singing songs. The room had about 6 windows that allowed a lot of natural light, there were 2 square tables with at least 6 little chairs at each table, and a small round blue table. The room was filled with book shelves, cabinets with pictures of the children on the cabinet doors; each child had a cubby with their name and a picture of them displayed on the front of it. There was a section in the room designated for circle time reading with words on post cards stuck on the walls. The class room seemed a little crowded with other shelves that included costumes for playing dress up, bins filled with toys and a stack of cots for sleeping/naptime. There were also recently done art work from the children hanging on a string to dry. …show more content…

As I observed the room and the children for a while, I noticed that the girls were a lot calmer and played independently and sometimes together without any fuss. They played at a table with puzzle and crayons, drawing pictures and showing it to their teacher. They did not mind that I was in the class room and continued with their activities as usual. Only one girl came by my table for a second and quickly went back to what she was doing. The teacher was sitting at the table with the girls helping them with their puzzle while monitoring the other kids in the

Based on my observation, I believe Mrs. Laura was the expertise and Mrs. Jan was the novice. Mrs. Laura was able to think in a larger, more meaningful pattern. When it came to teaching reading, Mrs. Laura was able to take the book and create different activities for the children to learn. She made it fun for the children to learn. When she created the different activities, she was able to target different goals such as spelling.…

Entering the classroom, each entrance and exit consisted of a child-lock gate to restrict the mobile children from leaving the room to ensure their safety. This room was located in the middle of the facility, adjacent to the room that is used for the children who are immobile. Within the room, the walls were painted with aquarium creatures, which adhered to the children’s interest as well as even capturing my attention. Included in the room were five cribs that are used for naptime, a changing table, and rocking chairs. Moreover, the condition of the room was messy and unorganized, however this is understandable due to the children continuously playing.…

On Tuesday, October 20, 2015, I observed a fourth-grade class at Media Elementary School in Media, PA. The teacher was Mrs. Williamsons, and there was also a student teacher, Emily in the class. I was there most of the day and observed Mathematics, Social studies, Reading, and Writing class. The set-up of the room was traditional 3 wide rows facing the board so that everyone is closer to the board. Also, there was a sitting area with a rug and that was closer to the electronic board, where students sat for watching any videos for the class, and during the Reading class.…

As I walked around I looked in to the Butterflies Classroom and noticed the children were getting ready for circle time as they sat quietly on the rug. Most of the kids in the classroom appeared to be between the ages of three to four. At first the kids seemed very shy towards me, they did not seem like they were very sociable. I was a stranger to them, and I would have to guess that all of the children were experiencing a little bit of stranger anxiety. Each child stood up and begin to introduce themselves.…

When, you enter the double doors, you see the kindergarten and first grade hall. It is littered with painting on the walls of fireplaces, posters of coins and simple addition problems, and fake clocks. Each class also scattered with the same things, except for the obvious addition of toys and other objects that any child would be interested in. The main center of the school is past this hall, where Landon and I checked dad in for school everyday.…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…

In the classroom at Denton City County Day school that I observed in, there is a wall that has the days of the week, a calendar with the current month and shapes drawn out and spelled out. All of these things are in big letters where the children can easily see them. The classroom teachers are providing a word wall that is enhancing their literacy abilities. According to Isenberg and Durham (2015), a word wall displays frequently used words related to a topic of study or has a meaning full purpose and contains either new or familiar words for the children to use. The word wall provides the children with a literacy-rich environment because it is used and taught to them daily.…

Walking into Ms. Vanneman’s first grade class on the first day of my observation, I expected first grade to be an extension of kindergarten. I thought that first grade was the transitional period before real learning took place. I expected the students to still be learning about shape, size, color, the alphabet, and proper classroom etiquette. I was quickly proven wrong and my expectations were blown. This first grade class was reading, spelling, solving math problems from memory, writing paragraphs, and for the most part was really well behaved.…

Throughout the course of my five days at the SAHETI primary school, I found myself astonished at various activities that are done throughout the day. Through the course of my practical, I was given a Grade two class to observe and I unquestionably discovered a recently developed love for that age group. I was always adamant from the first time I knew I wanted to become a teacher that I wanted to teach Grade one’s, but my thoughts have definitely evolved. During the course of my observing I was more than willing to help with various activities such as marking, doing spelling tests with the children, as well as helping them with any difficulties they were having with their work. I have gained a lot of experience after helping out with the activities and my knowledge for teaching has grown immensely.…
