Evolution is a natural process that occurs throughout the history of time; this process allows the Earth and it’s inhabitants to adapt to current environments to survive. Humans are physically and mentally subjected to evolution, although humans have ceased from major physical evolutionary changes since the dawn of Homo Sapiens, their minds are ever-changing to further progress the human race. Throughout the course of human history, every generation had a different sense of purpose, beliefs, and ideologies. Shamanism In Cave Art

Shamanism is a front running hypothesis and is associated with magico-religious expression through the form of cave art. However, it’s a highly contentious subject with some people fiercely opposing this theory and branding its advocates as ‘shamaniacs’. Perhaps the contention lies with “the loose use of labels and names such as shamanism that has led to some of the confusion” (Taçon, 2006). Often shamanism has been used to rationalize almost everything in a way that suggests it was “shamans and their initiates that were the main or even exclusive producers of rock art” (Taçon, 2006). Even though shamanism has been a long standing theory for cave art interpretations, it has only been taken seriously in the scientific field within the last two decades, and is based on ethnographic data linked to San rock art in Southern Africa.…

In this Anthropology class, most if not all of the societies that we look at and investigate have some form of evidence that shows the emergence of social complexity and complex structure like states or civilizations. The article of Norman Yoffee states, “All human societies develop along a universal "evolutionary" trajectory from small and egalitarian to large and socially complex”. I believe that this statement is inaccurate, all societies that have come to existence have not all developed on a universal trajectory (small to large). I believe that there are many different evolutionary possibilities in societies. In Norman Yoffee’s article, page 72 figure 6.6 shows a more accurate trajectory of evolution in social complexity where there…

Samuel L. Jackson once said, “We’ve come a long way in our thinking, but also in our moral decay.” This quote holds true today as society stays rapidly changing and people become more and more desensitized to the horrors of the world. The line between right and wrong fades and turns to a larger gray area, and many things that happen in society today make us question how we, as a collective people, ended up where we are and how we acquired the customs we have today. Aldous Huxley, in his novel Brave New World, uses a great deal of satire and exaggeration to express his concerns for the society he was born into and bring attention to the problems of moral decay, drug dependency, and brainwashing, among other things, in the world.…

Since the beginning of time, civilizations have been established due to the geography and climate in a certain area. Civilizations tend to arise in regions that are inhabitable and capable of sustaining life (Nate Sullivan).Whether they were located close to the mountains or the deserts, every little aspect of their surrounding effected them culturally and politically. Hominids, which were two-legged pre-human predecessors were said to be the first humans on earth, however it was not till later on that scientist found records of any kind. After the Neolithic Revolution, humans began to raise livestock and harvest food instead of hunting and gathering. The regions were so suitable that kingdoms were made.…

“Prehistoric cave paintings are exactly what the name says, paintings in caves from prehistoric times. They are from a really long time ago and they were the first known from of art by humans. People probably did this when they had some free time and nothing really better to do besides sit around and do nothing.” That is what I thought to myself before watching Werner Herzog’s film Cave of Forgotten Dreams. Many people do not understand the importance of these old pieces of art and what they can tell about past life.…

Classification is the process of sorting out objects in the world into separate parts and groups and it is a necessary aspect in the scientific world. Categorizing chemicals, species, etc.. is easier than categorizing subjects in the humanities. There are many problems that occur when humans classify things based on their own behavior and belief of the world. Both the concept of space and race may play hand to hand due to the different perspectives of the definition of space and both can be methods of classification. Michel de Certeau explores the difference between space and a place while Professor David Torres-Rouff described the history of Los Angeles and how it has evolved through time.…

In recent discussions of Susan Bordos reading about woman’s pressures in society, one controversial issue has been on how women have these expectation in society that they think they have to follow, like being able to cook, be in the kitchen, look pretty, and dress a certain way to get attention. By contrast, other arguments are that men don’t have to worry about their weight, how they are supposed to be stronger, and not having to be in the kitchen or cooking. Proponents of this position emphasize that women in this world have to go off of what society thinks of them, so they have to follow this or they will not get the same attention as they would if they went on and did their own thing. In sum, the issue is whether women follow what society…
