I have begun to intern at Thrifty White Pharmacy in Fargo and find that this experience has been invaluable. Familiarizing myself with drugs has been the greatest takeaway from the position thus far. This and volunteering in the community have given me the valuable opportunity to work with a diverse group of people. I have volunteered at the Salvation Army and at the Community Education Center in my hometown of Cambridge, Minnesota. Being able to volunteer and help those less fortunate in the community has been a gratifying experience, and one that I wish to continue in the future. Work experiences and volunteering have enabled me to get to know a more diverse group of people and the opportunity to help others in the community.

I have always wanted to have a rewarding career, one that allows me to make a difference in the lives of others. The opportunity to work in a healthcare field like pharmacy will allow me to attain this goal. Prior to matriculation from the program my source of motivation held no true direction, I wanted to simply “help people”. During SPHSP I was exposed to federally qualified health centers (FQHC) and my eyes were opened to new medium to help people. I admired the measures that FQHC put in place to effectively serve a population of people that, under normal circumstances, would not be able pursue healthcare. FQHCs aligned closely to the sense of equity that I began to develop as I was exposed to communities suffering from health disparities over the course of the internship.…
