Pre Event Planning Paper

Being the event expert on the biggest mall in America, the first thing on the list would be doing a pre-event planning meeting. Pre-event planning would take place about 12-18 months prior to the event. At this meeting we would discuss all major tasks required by the event and assign agencies to different tasks. For example fire, emergency medical services, health, public works, and other agencies. We would also discuss protocol for issues that might happen at the event. Like extraordinary crimes, violence ordinary crimes, and incidents like fights. We will discuss management, who will be in charge, team leaders, and communication. Each section of the event will have specific security guards at that location. We will communicate by radios which also we will establish codes that all agencies will understand. As lead on the security, we need to make sure officers are posted where they should be. Have team leaders’ check on their responsibilities. Have multiple guards on both exits and entrances of the event. Have a head count of how many people are entering the event. So we won’t have a problem with over-crowding. While some people may think of event management as a degree in party planning, it is gaining credibility as a legitimate career. The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council created event management standards which also led to the definition of exactly what an event is (Robertson, 2015). An event is “a social form that organizes interaction in a distinctive way” or the “gathering of three or more people who agree to assemble for a purpose ostensibly related to the functioning of an organization or group” (Beaulie, 2004). According to Michael Auerbach, “in 2006 there were 51,000 event planners in the U.S. and 39% of those were within an event planning company” which demonstrates the grand size of the industry and its obvious importance to society (2015). The purpose of this paper is to explore a career in event planning.…
