In organizational structure you have an informal structure which varies in the criminal justice system. Until the Great Depression of the 1930s, state and neighborhood governments bore some obligation regarding giving help to poor people. For the most part, such help was negligible, best case scenario, with chapel and volunteer offices giving the greater part of any guide. The new arrangement approaches of President franklin d. roosevelt included new government activities to help those in destitution. With a large number of individuals unemployed amid the 1930s monetary dejection, welfare help was past the money related assets of the states.…
The 1970’s brought with it ‘tough-on-crime’ policies, which created a shift in the judicial system from the previous model of predominantly crime control to a punitive model that increased incarceration rates and sentences. This new model and policies created an overall overcrowding in the local jails, state and federal prison system, costing states and local government millions of dollars. This journal specifically looks at incarceration systems in the state of Texas and the costs associated with overcrowded facilities. Texas offers a unique perspective as the entire state was the first to look at alternative methods of punishment than that of imprisonment. The authors both have the credentials to perform the study and no obvious bias is apparent.…

The juvenile justice system has come a long way from way back in the 1800’s to 2000’s we live in today. The process in which juveniles are convicted and punished has become more refined and set toward more reform than punishment. Did you know that back in the 1800’s and earlier juveniles were held in the same jails as adults were? The earliest start of the separate juvenile justice system can be traced back to the early 1800’s (Taylor, Fritsch and Caeti).…

Notably in the United States, another way to oppress individuals, especially minorities is through the criminal justice system. The effects of the incarceration on this particular group is felt within the African American community; these individuals have adapted the mind set of not being able to trust anyone, especially the law since they are always targeted by police officers, who in actuality are given the power to protect and serve. African Americans’ not having the ability to fall back on the police force exemplifies why the police department needs to be redeveloped. Being that this is the career path that I wish to follow, my expectations that the police department should engage in- will be the policies.…

Drug addiction is the root of crime in the United States, in a 1997 report 80% of State inmates reported past drug use reported by Chris Mumola (1999). If the criminal justice system could reduce the number of people abusing drugs, it would reduce not only drug related crimes, but would reduce the amount of all crimes. A reduction in crime would result in a safer and more productive society. Without changing how the criminal justice system views drug addiction we will never see a significant decrease in the crime rate across the United States.…

Throughout this course, I have learned a considerable amount of information regarding law enforcement, the courts, and the correctional system. Firstly, those in law enforcement, use discretion to make decisions of how and when to enforce the law (Hendrix, 2013, p.137). Laws are enforced so that they may restrain evil, not entirely remove it (Fischer, 2015, Biblical Principles). Second, the role of the courts is to assist law enforcement in deciding how to punish criminal offenders. While God is the ultimate authority, he still calls for government to punish those who have done evil (Fischer, 2015, Biblical Principles).…
Before parole and probation punishments were very harsh, and often lead to death. Over time we have developed these two systems to punish individuals, but at the same time help them learn how to live in the current society. The concept of parole was first discussed in 1888 in a report generated by the ND State Penitentiary directed to the governor of the Dakota Territory. A few years later, the ND State Penitentiary began an early release program for short-time prisoners.…
