Pre-AP Class Reflection

Starting out my first semester in my undergraduate studies, I was so confident, believing that I would never become behind on assignments and will spend a tremendous amount of time studying. Unknowingly, I became behind on picking a preview date and was left with only a limited amount of open classes. While attending the preview, I was given a plan from DegreWorks that was filled with courses recommended for me my first semester. One of the courses apart of the plan was UNIV 150. After being unsure about the course, I did some further investigation on what I would be learning and then I asked myself, “Why do I need to take a course about college writing when I primarily took Pre-AP classes throughout high school? ” That question was quickly answered in the first couple of weeks of class when I would procrastinate and have to turn in assignments after due dates. …show more content…
I began changing my sleeping, homework, and work habits and while doing this I was able to catch up before I got too far behind. Fortunately, as I caught up I began to actually read my textbooks that were required with my classes. The book used in UNIV150 had so much relevancy and was very relatable to some of the situations I had going on in my life. One specific chapter that aided me the most on how to I should write was chapter 3, How to stay on top of it. This chapter outlined multiple methods on how to maintain positive reading strategies and after reading then analyzing during my discussion posts and journals. I was able to figure out the most efficient way of reading for myself and I now use outlines, notes, and summaries in my other classes also and I’m very thankful that UNIV150 was recommended for

It was February 2015, my class test for AP Calculus. I was struggling with my 2nd problem (out of 6) and half of my time had passed by. Looking at the next question, I groaned. I couldn’t remember how to compute the 2nd derivative of a function. That was when I realized how much I was struggling with the free response sections of the AP Calculus test, I took it into my own hands to study so I can achieve a 5.My teacher had told me that a 4 was sufficient but I aspired to achieve a 5 because that was my goal.…

It has been a little over two months since I began my out of the classroom experience in the Shustova Chemistry lab. With many extractions, separations, Schlenk line setups, and NMR spectroscopies, I am feeling much more confortable preforming higher-level chemistry techniques all while upholding national safety standards. This sense of comfortableness did not come quickly. This is where the most challenging aspect of the Capstone Project comes into play. The challenge that I face when I go into lab twice a week is to feel confident with the procedures I have done before, and the slight tweaks I am told to make to hopefully reach the desired project.…

As a freshman, in 2014, I attended the first few technique courses clueless about adapting to them and writing collegiate papers. Coming from a background of mainly jazz and tap, I knew I would face challenges while learning modern and ballet techniques. One of the many challenges I faced was learning to take advantage of my kinesphere. During each modern class, I was encouraged to dance bigger and really reach out in order for my movement to expand. Even though I found it to be a challenge, I was not aware of how large I could move, until I pushed myself.…

After reading Chapter 2, Essentials of College writing I realized I am not consistent with how I memorize or gain a better understanding the reading material. I know that with my college work I must work on utilizing more aspects of the SQ3R strategies. In high school I have done skimming, highlighting the important facts and reading the chapter summary to get a general idea about the subject. If I had to write a paper about a book journaling and reflection would be something I would use to annotate big events or turning points in the book to later reflecting on the outcome of that event. I have also annotated some key information I had to know on post cards to study for my career development course in the Air Force.…

Working for the quality of my work and not for the grade has become my new mindset of the English subject, it has become a major improvement/emphasis in my daily life while attending this first quarter of 8th Grade English Honors based on motivational sayings by Mr. Royal. The development of this concept of mine has worked its way up and constructed itself based on the concept Mr. Royal has delivered to us about not only working hard, but being able to comprehend the overall image of the text, or literature, etc. Conveying the overall image of comprehension was a real hassle for me at first, but as the days flew by in this first quarter of English, I have learn to exhale all the stress, failures, and mishaps, and turn them into words that…

English 219 was my first college level English course, and through attending and completing all of the assignments I have learned many skills that I believe will greatly help me in my future courses in college. Next semester I am enrolled in English 220, and after having taken this course I feel substantially better about continuing on with English courses at a college level. It has helped me to become more confident in my writing skills and provided me with an excellent basis for me to continue on with next semester, and throughout the rest of my schooling experience. Throughout this class I have learned many things, but perhaps the most important is the steps to writing an essay, and the planning options.…

When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…
