Praying The beautiful thing about music is its ability to reach millions of people everywhere. And out of those millions, almost every single one of them, if not all, have faced some sort of difficulty. Music has the power to let those people know that they are not alone. While there are a multitude of songs to listen to and connect with, Kesha and Ryan Lewis’ collaborative hit, “Praying”, encourages those who face adversities and gives them that extra push in the right direction.

As humans, it is natural to feel unsure about something because we are afraid. But even to listen to a song that leaves people free to interpret it as they choose to, is a lifesaver in itself. A huge reason that individuals listen to music is because it feels

Vulnerability is key when both being the writer and performer behind a song as well the listener to the song. Without that aspect, a song cannot prosper. The vulnerability conveyed throughout this song in its entirety is the beauty behind it and Kesha’s story.

The song itself was written for Kesha during a dark period of hers. She hadn’t had any new music out for about 4 years because nothing was ever what she wanted to give to her fans. However, Ryan Lewis --rapper and producer-- came up with this hit that met all of her wishes. This song represents being walked over and realizing self worth and knowing when enough is enough, just as Kesha did with her now ex-producer, Dr. Luke of Kemosabe Records.

At times, it is easier said than done. We are most often able to recognize a situation, however, figuring a way out is another obstacle to cross. With that being said, it generally is easiest to just accept what is happening and often becomes too late. “I’ve already spent too much time on this”, “I don’t want to start over”, is what normally comes to mind, and I can personally be on board with this one. However, that is a death

Kesha’s experiences with her ex-producer were the reasons for this brilliant piece. Dr. Luke controlled Kesha by disrespecting her and her music. There has been a legal feud between the two since 2014. Claims have gone back and forth on what has happened. But regardless, Kesha has obviously been traumatized from her experience with Dr. Luke. Therefore, this song was her way of expressing herself in her own way without anyone such as him, dictating her voice or actions. This is what she wanted to convey to her followers as well. No matter what they may or may not be going through, the goal was to show them their own light at the end of the tunnel. They can get out just as she

By beginning the song with descriptions of the main character refraining from sex, as well as fighting for her rights, the lyrics empower women by supporting both the decision to abstain from sex, as well as the decision to indulge. Nikki Minaj’s verse reinforces the idea that sex may be used for power by vocalizing her sexual abilities in the lyrics. Dolly Parton is also introduces as a sex icon to establish that sexual freedom, although controversial, is empowering through the basic idea that it is just that- FREEDOM. Although the lyrics have the power to negatively influence future generations toward sexual exhibitionism, that is not the point that the song is trying to make.…

This song talks about the speaker who is abused by her boyfriend but she stands by him because she loves him. This is similar to when we find out that Mayella was abused by her father but still loves him because well, it’s her father. They both show unhealthy relationships and how bad things can be at home. The mood in both of this song and the book is desperate. They are both desperate for love and will do anything to stay by their family/man.…

The lyrics of the song are tragic in the way of being about self-consummation of the girl always worrying about her beauty, fate in the relationship not lasting with a hurtful companion, and release of the girl hopefully one day finding her true self and being okay with that. The lyrics also deal with dramatic illusion by having an uncertain destiny with the girl finding her beauty, and can be a little intense by saying the girl was more confident before the relationship or even before what other people thought. Based on those, this song is incongruent, meaning the controversial message is made more acceptable and the tranquility of the musicality helps that work…

The song presents a dismal environment where the listener feels trapped in a situation that appears hopeless. During the refrain, the song states that “I could never be what you wanted me to be,” which can be perceived by the listener as that the person performing the song was unable to attain perfection in someone’s mind who is important to them. During the bridge of the piece, the performer screams the phrase “does anyone care enough,” which implies that the performer feels hopeless, in the sense that they feel alone. Although these are only two lines from this verbose piece, these two lines illustrate the general mood of the piece.…

Each of his songs tells a story of the things he has overcome or has wrestled with in his life, whether that be love, depression, or ankylosing spondylitis—a type of arthritis. As Reynolds grows older, the tone and message of his songs change greatly from one of sorrow and self-hating to one of strength and self-love. This transition can be seen through his speakers that he created in his songs titled “My Fault”, “Believer”, and “Whatever It Takes”.…
