Vulnerability is key when both being the writer and performer behind a song as well the listener to the song. Without that aspect, a song cannot prosper. The vulnerability conveyed throughout this song in its entirety is the beauty behind it and Kesha’s story.
The song itself was written for Kesha during a dark period of hers. She hadn’t had any new music out for about 4 years because nothing was ever what she wanted to give to her fans. However, Ryan Lewis --rapper and producer-- came up with this hit that met all of her wishes. This song represents being walked over and realizing self worth and knowing when enough is enough, just as Kesha did with her now ex-producer, Dr. Luke of Kemosabe Records.

Kesha’s experiences with her ex-producer were the reasons for this brilliant piece. Dr. Luke controlled Kesha by disrespecting her and her music. There has been a legal feud between the two since 2014. Claims have gone back and forth on what has happened. But regardless, Kesha has obviously been traumatized from her experience with Dr. Luke. Therefore, this song was her way of expressing herself in her own way without anyone such as him, dictating her voice or actions. This is what she wanted to convey to her followers as well.
