Prayer Of Jonah Research Paper

Was it really a prayer? In our Navi class, we are learning about Jonah and why he ran away from God’s command. First Jonah was commanded by God to go to Nineveh, instead of going to Nineveh, he went to Yaffo and got on a boat to Tarshish. By making a bad mistake, Jonah made the sailors pay for his consequence with a big storm. When the sailors asked Jonah who he was he said, “I’m a Hebrew I fear the Lord, God of Heavens, and the creator of the land and the sea.” When he was thrown into the sea, God sends a big fish comes and swallowed Jonah. After staying in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights, Jonah prayed to God and thanks, Him. Jonah’s “prayer” was not really a prayer; It was a thing you have to do when you have no other choice like having to say sorry when you are backed into a corner. Everyone has done it some point in their life. Once, I got in a fight with my sister and I had to apologize in order to watch tv, but I was stubborn enough not to listen, so it got into a bigger deal. After giving a late nonchalant apology everyone came to tranquility. For not apologizing fast enough I got grounded for a week with no tv and computer. The only reason I apologized because I was not able to fight back and my mom forced me to. Jonah’s story is similar to mine because we apologized late and we could not find a loophole. In Sefer Yonah, Jonah gave a false apology and blamed God for what he did. Even though he said God was great and anyone who didn’t believe in Him was wrong, but he also said that You cast me into the depths. The only reason Jonah apologized and prayed to God because had no way out, no loophole. Like Jonah, I had to apologize when I had no way around the trouble I caused. There are times when you get in trouble, but don’t be like Jonah and give a false statement to make another feel

The narrator of this book is named Jonah, which is odd because the name comes from the bible, from the story of Jonah and the whale. As mentioned Jonah was once a Christian but converted to a Bokononist. “ I would have been a Bokononist then, if there had been anyone to teach me the bittersweet lies of Bokonon.” (Vonnegut 2). He sometimes feels that God is trying to control him.…

Apology When we hear the word “apology” the definitions that rings bell to our mind is “begging or pleading forgiveness” but it is very distinct in the “Plato’s Apology”. This article rather authenticates how Socrates defensed himself by virtue of his arguments for being the wisest, honest, and knowledgeable person but remained guilty of the applied charges at the end. He was charged guilty by his fellow Athenians for, not recognizing the gods that everyone believed in and creating new gods; and corrupting the youth of Athens. [1]. In his defense, Socrates requested the jury not to cause any disturbance for the figure of speech that he uses.…

Apologizing is usually what a person would do if they have done something wrong, or if they have personally hurt another individual. However, sometimes an apology is given when it is something that people have done in the past. There have been so many wrongs in the past that some people still feel the need to be apologizing for them, and some people still feel they are owed an apology from the governments of the involved countries. In “A Sorry State”, Mitch Miyagawa discusses the many apologies that have been given out by governments around the world and what those apologies truly accomplish. There has been an apology given for every war, every case of discrimination, and every misguided choice.…

Can actions actually speak? Do they speak louder than words? Mark Twain once said, “Actions speak louder than words but not nearly as often.” In society today, many people overuse phrases such as: “I’m sorry” or “I will not do it again,” which leaves the phrases with hardly any meaning. Growing up my grandpa always told me, “People will forget what you did and what you said, but they will never forget the way you made them feel,” I think that this quote goes hand in hand with the quote by Mark Twain.…
