Praxis Writing Test

I am in disbelief that a department who once was or still is part of the education field would be able to base one's performance off of a standardized test when a GPA is able to determine the work ethic of that individual. As I have been told time and time again that the Praxis writing score of 162 for the University of Iowa was set by the state and is more difficult than one may think to change. I do understand this situation. As I sit here staring at my third score from the Praxis Writing test, I wonder what I am to do. Do I retake the exam again in hope that I pass and that there is still enough openings in the elementary education program that I get in? Or do I look into a different major; something I did not think about because I was bound and determined that nothing was stepping in my way of becoming a teacher anymore. I sit in silence asking myself what if now, as I see my dreams being torn apart by one test score and a few points. What is my backup plan, what do I do, where do I go? I have come up with the options of taking a year or two off of school, or to transfer to the University of Northern Iowa, where I know that I will be a shoo-in for their program, as I have passed all of their application requirements. …show more content…
It is a lot to take in, I know. I want the issue to be out there and known. Not all students perform the same. I believe that it is important that not only our state but also our country strive to create teachers who have been through a life with different kinds of abilities. If you employ teachers that have never experienced being in the same struggling shoes, how can a teacher fully understand how that student learns? I am not asking for you to make it any easier to be accepted into the education program, I am asking for you to be more understanding to those who face these issues daily and are trying to fulfill a dream of theirs.
