Belle's Prater's Boy is about a boy named Woodrow Prater whose mother disappears from their house. His mother gets up and leaves in the middle of the night, taking nothing with her, telling no one she is leaving, and the next morning is no where to be found. His father begins to drink and sends Woodrow to live with his grandparents. His cousin, Gypsy, lives next door and they begin to become friends. Woodrow was being spoiled and treated to nice things, being bought new things, and taken to get haircuts and other things by his grandparents that his parents never did for him. But it seemed when he got around people they started to discuss his mothers disappearance. One day, Granny makes dinner and Woodrow is just so excited about the love and
