Not only do both Billy and Joe both play golf, but the family finds other ways to live a healthy lifestyle as well. By saving money on gas, both parents try to bike to work as often as they can. Not only are they saving money on gas, but getting in a great workout as well. The family also has a membership to the health club close to home, which costs $49 a month. Not only do the parents take health seriously, but the kids Billy and Joe are seriously invested in their athletics as well. The two of them take personal golf lessons at the University of Iowa, and also play in the junior golf league at the Brown Deer Golf Club in Cedar Rapids, where the kids are supervised and give guidance under PGA professionals. The kids are given top of the line equipment as well, both have clubs that cost $180, and are also dressed properly with golf attire that costs over $350 for a whole outfit for each kid. The parents also plan on Joe to use Billy’s clothes when they grow up, to save money on clothes. One was the ability to buy certain items at Walmart and Scheels. At Walmart the cheapest pair of men’s shoe you can buy is $15, while at Scheels the cheapest pair is $60. Also a set at golf clubs at Walmart is $100, while the cheapest men’s set at Scheels is $180. There is a clear difference in ability to buy items here. Not all parents can afford the expenses at Scheels, and that is why Walmart becomes an option. It is clear that not all socio-economic classes can shop at Scheels, the prices are shockingly high. Another point that was spotted was when the parents were shopping for Karen’s toys they noticed that the girl’s activity gym was $17 less than the boy’s activity gym. The two activity gym’s also had clear differences, the girl’s gym had less activities in the toy then the males did for whatever reason. If one looks closely at the marketing of all these items, one could see the difference in social class, gender, or ability. Not many people think about why items aren’t sold at Walmart but at Scheels, or why there is a difference in baby toys from male to female, but there actually is one.
