During this program, I worked closely with Dr. Branch-Vital and 2 of her graduate students to learn the process of conducting research. Upon the completion of the program, I completed a research poster titled: Examining Factors Contributing to BMI Among African American Freshman Students at a HBCU in a Rural Area. At the end of high school, financial hardships at home forced me to take a serious look at how my undergraduate career was going to be paid for. I decided to accept a full scholarship to the College of DuPage where I worked hard, received strong grades, and earned a scholarship to Loyola University Chicago. I am incredibly grateful that my family was eventually able to assist me in paying for school, but without first attending community college and receiving a scholarship to Loyola, I would not be in this position today. I believe that my dedication and determination that were required in this journey are qualities that will be a great contribution to the learning community at Saint Louis University. I believe it is also important to address…
