Introduction
My practicum site is with a company called Systemic Effects, which focuses on Marriage and Family Therapy. Due to my inability to sit in on sessions with clients, my observation was during a meeting between one of the therapist and a website designer that was going to help market the company. The licensed marriage and family therapist that I was observing has a bachelor’s degree in business, a master’s degree in mental health, and a PhD in marriage and family therapy. Due to this therapist’s degree in business, he is responsible for starting up Systemic Effects and maintaining the marketing and management aspect of the company. In addition, he is also a therapist for the company. The designer for the web page works for a company

I learned about their educational backgrounds, past job experiences, how Systemic Effects came about, and about their family’s. However, during this conference meeting to rebrand Systemic Effects, I was also able to learn about the demographics of the cliental, what they specialize in, and the community outreach the company is involved with. This specific person that I had the opportunity to observe informed me that he specializes in trauma and has many contracts with different cities in Florida. For example, he has a contract with Miami, and after the Parkland Shooting, he went to South Florida to assist the victims. Systemic Effects prides itself on EMDR therapy, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and reprocessing. This technique “stimulates [our] inherent information processing system and allows the traumatic experience to be properly processed” (Feener, 2004). This form of treatment is often used with those who experience post traumatic stress disorder. PTSD is most often associated with those in the military, but can be caused by a variety of events. The therapist that I observed was in the NAVY and is very passionate about helping service members re-acclimate to civilian life after deployment and work through their PTSD. If I had not attended this conference meeting, I would not know what the foundation for what Systemic Effects is built on, or what is valued to the company. I would also not have known what EMDR was or how it can help a client. It is important to know this information when in a work environment so you can better suite your cliental, as well as be able to represent the company properly. All of this information that I learned was given to the designer of the website in order to portray it on the website to potential clients as

I enjoyed Ms. Jordan’s talk of her experience working through her sexual trauma. What I found most respectful is how Ms. Jordan was aware that medication would only numb the underlying pain and feelings of the past trauma. Even though Ms. Jordan knew medication was not the answer for her, she used medication to help her get through the holidays until she could receive a holistic treatment. When she described her experience of taking a shower and freezing but didn’t remember the trauma at that time until receiving an EMDR treatment. I respect her courage to open up and share a personal experience of such nature with the world to see.…

The crisis counselor needs to have a tolerance for ambiguity. We need to walk into any circumstance without personal opinions or feeling for the event. For an example, if we walked into a scene where there had been a traumatic event. We have to be able to bring back a sense of order from a chaotic scene with none of our own biases. We also need to keep a calm, neutral demeanor when going into a high stress situation or we would permit ourselves to be swept away from our own emotional reactions and responses.…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. At first the tasks given to us on the syllabus seemed daunting, almost insurmountable within the five-week period of the program; it seemed even more inconceivable with the class being only twice a week. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…
